Lily had barely finished speaking before James uttered his disarming spell; she reached quickly for her wand as she backed further up the stage, trying to dodge the spell he had aimed at her but the spell directly hit her right hand causing her wand to fall to the floor. Bugger she thought as her green eyes met James; she would never hear the end of this. Her wand rolled a few steps before coming to a halt at the edge of the stage. Damned sticky up haired twit, she thought grumpily as pushed her hair back off her face with irritation. She should have been prepared for that, she knew James well enough to know he liked to win; competiveness was a common trait in the Potter family. Lily herself didn’t like to let the men in the family have all the fun and would often do what she could to prove she was strong competition in the family games. Lily wasn’t a bad loser; in fact she could be quite gracious when the time called for it, but now wasn’t the time especially when she had a bunch of her students watching her duelling.
Lily ignored the wicked grin James was flashing her, the grin that infuriated her but also attracted her at the same time. Why did he have to be so attractive, she thought, it made it harder for her to be cross with him. Lily reached for her wand picking it up and taking on a defensive stance, she still had to show the class a successful blocking spell. Well that’s what she told herself, her desire for another chance had nothing to do with showing the class a successful blocking spell and a lot to do with knocking the grin of her husband’s face.
‘Okay that was an example of a successful disarming spell, the spell may be very simple but if delivered at the right moment it can prove to be very effective’ Lily said addressing the whole hall but never taking her eyes of James, just encase he sent another sneaky spell her way when her guard was down. Lily was slightly concerned about how the rest of the class would deliver these spells without taking their house rivalry’s into account, she was sure she would spend the remainder of the lesson disengaging sly spells sent to cause trouble between the years.
‘Mr Potter if you’d like to send a disarming spell again, let’s see if I can show the class how to cast a successful blocking charm’
[/b] she said brightly flashing him a smile as she held her wand in a defensive motion, she was most certainly going to make a better show of herself this time. Or else she hoped she would. Lily was usually quite adept at duelling, she knew how to throw a skilful spell or two at the enemy, she wasn’t unbeatable quite the contrary but over the years she had developed a style of duelling that had got her out of a few close scrapes. Lily looked forward to the end of the class when she could finally sit down with her husband for a few short moments and catch up, it had been far too long since she’d spent much time with him, it was a definite low point of her job here at Hogwarts. While there was a very small amount of students actually showing up to the dueling club's first meeting when compared to the whole school at large, Hannah thought that there was a decent showing of students. There wasn't that much diversity when it came to the student population in the room, but that was probably to be expected. After all, there was bound to be those students that honestly didn't care one way or another about what happened. At any rate, it seemed like a good idea to attend the additional class. True, it was her OWL year, and thus she would be stressed out for that. But, it was still not that far into the school year, so the additional class wouldn't set her behind too much. Besides, any excuse to rid herself of studying the same information several times even though she already knew it was a positive sign to the actual dueling club in itself.
Hannah turned her hazel eyes to Harry. It was moments like what had just happened to Harry that she was thankful that her parents weren't at the castle themselves. Sure, it would probably be beneficial to have them around, and she probably wouldn't mind too much. However, such public displays of affection were usually embarrassing when with your parents. If it was with someone that you loved, that was an entirely different story. However, all that would result from something like that with your parents, would be negative harassment at some point or another. It was usually conducted by other students that you did not like, and usually took on the form of teasing. But, she wasn't cold-hearted, and she was Harry's friend. Despite how fun teasing might have been, Harry didn't seem too pleased with the whole matter. So, it was best to keep it quiet, and not inflame any remarks, especially with the high amount of Slytherins already in attendance.
Therefore, Hannah flashed Harry a friendly smile, trying to signal that she wasn't about to talk about the recent public display of affection by his parents. Now was not the time nor the place for that kind of reaction. But, this smile on her lips soon turned to a frown at his statement to her. Indeed, it appeared as if Harry was more annoyed about the whole extra class in general. Quite honestly, she shouldn't blame Harry for his sentiment. If this was during the second half of the year, when the work started piling up a lot, then she probably would have skipped the meeting as well. Since the workload wasn't that bad yet, there was really no excuse just yet. Besides, if Harry had problems completing his work on time now, she would hate to see how backed up with work he'd be during the second part of the year.
"Don't be so negative, I'm sure that we'll learn something from this. Besides, your mother is teaching this, so I would assume that she would keep your interest on mind. Oh, you didn't finish that yet? I didn't find it that hard. But, yeah, I wouldn't expect Snape to either," Hannah conceded with a nod. Indeed, it was very unlikely. Professor Snape acted like he hated them, so it was most likely that he wouldn't give out any extensions. Besides, she honestly didn't really care about extensions, considering how she normally finished her work before it was due anyway. Of course, her own studying habits weren't any indications of the rest of the fifth years. If so, then everyone would be psychotic freaks like her. Thankfully that did not seem to be the case from what she could tell.
At Harry's question, Hannah nodded. "I'm fine. I hope I could say that within a few months. How have you been?" she asked him. She never really had too much opportunity to talk to Harry that much. Oh sure, they had discussions during class. But, aside from those, there wasn't too many opportunities where they could talk. For that matter, a dueling class wasn't the best place to talk in either. But, the class hadn't started yet, and they weren't in any foreseeable danger just yet. If this was the Herbology greenhouses, a potentially dangerous plant could come close to attacking them. That would surely be a terrible predicament to be in.
As Harry seemed to be greeting other people in the Great Hall, Hannah let her hazel eyes scan the room of students to see if she knew anyone. Was it just her, or did it seem like a good portion of the class was in the Slytherin house? That wouldn't bode too well if the class as a whole had to break off to practice. But, she didn't keep her thoughts on that prospect. She wasn't a deeply negative person. Terrible self-confidence, yes, but not exactly negative. In her observation of the room, the only other person that she recognized from her own house was Luke. "Hi Luke," she called to him, hoping that he could hear her. She had no idea how far her voice would carry in the Great Hall like that.
Right after that, Professor Potter seemed ready enough to start the dueling club lesson with a demonstration. Ah, and with Mr. Potter nonetheless. It seemed like Harry's parents knew how to embarrass him in the school. The two adults seemed to model a disarming spell, which seemed to catch Professor Potter by surprise. Up next would be the blocking spell, which would hopefully not yield the same surprise. She was already knowledgeable in the disarming and blocking spells, which was probably helped by the books that she already read. However, her practice in blocking was not as extensive as disarming. If she remembered correctly, the older students should have been taught disarming already. Blocking, on the other hand, was a fairly new concept for the fifth year. She didn't really practice it that much, and for that matter, she didn't exactly walk around the castle looking to fight in a duel either.

[/i] Though Lily spoke to the crowd of students who were there to learn, she too never took her eyes off of James. He still grinned, knowing she was just waiting for him to do something else to possibly embarrass her. However, James would be good. He knew she was running a lesson, so however badly he may want to just have at it and watch his wife attempt to deflect his teasing spells, he knew he should wait for her instructions, solely for the purposes of keeping the lesson in order. Thankfully, he didn’t have to wait very long. “Mr. Potter if you’d like to send a disarming spell again, let’s see if I can show the class how to cast a successful blocking charm.” At that moment, Lily too had a wide grin on her face, the daring in her eyes just as prominent as in James’s own. James couldn’t lie – he was incredibly turned on right now. The mischief in her eyes was almost too much for him to handle, but James knew that giving up the magical attack in order to attack her in a different way just wouldn’t be appropriate at the moment, and so he gripped his wand in anticipation, ready to follow through on her request. He held his stance for only a moment longer, knowing he’d lost the element of surprise that he’d had on the first take, so he would have to make this short and sweet if he wanted to succeed. He knew that the purpose of the display was so that Lily could make an example of a successful blocking spell, but James just couldn’t hand it to her on a silver platter. She would have to work for it herself. James Potter didn’t give up easily, even in a fake duel. His eyes flashed once as he raised and lowered his eyebrows quickly, taunting his wife only slightly before finally bursting through his immobility with a quick motion. “Expelliarmus!” he bellowed, slashing his wand down the same way he had before. The magic burst forth from his wand, heading straight for his wife, and James grinned as he awaited the effects of his launched attack, wondering if a similar outcome would be observed. He certainly hoped so. There was little things he loved more than making a show of triumphing over his wife. He had to admit – it made her a bit feisty, and that sort of mood was always welcome when it came to James and Lily. word count;; 843 [/ul][/size]
