The Revolution Has Begun
"There's no need to call me sir Professor."
FULL NAME: Cadence Imogene Shacklebolt NICKNAMES: • Cay • Denny • Goose (her father’s pet name for her, not that she would tell anyone that…) AGE: Sixteen BIRTHDAY: 21st of December SEXUALIY: Bisexual… or at least she thinks that she is. BLOODLINE: Pureblood HOUSE: Hufflepuff YEAR: Sixth year JOB:Being a Student, thank you very much. SIDE: Neutral. She doesn’t like the idea of war, even if her father does. SPECIES/SPECIAL ABILITIES: Seer (a poor one in her opinion) CANON: Yes.
"You don't know what I'm capable of, you don't know what I've done!"
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Cadence is what most people would call an awkward beauty. She is fairly pretty, or at least pretty enough to get by but she certainly isn’t any sort of beauty queen. At least she doesn’t think that she is. Mainly because she always seems to focus on the negative aspects of her physical appearance. Cay stands at an impressive height, 5’11, something that is both good and bad. Bad because it causes her to be taller than most people in her year and it is hard to find a guy who wants to date a girl who is taller than him. She is also stick thin, but not for lack of eating. She wants to gain some weight, mainly because she wants to not be so awkward looking.
Her skin is a dark mocha that has always caused her pleasure, mainly because she always has a fairly even skin tone. Cadence’s eyes are a dark brown that make her seem even more innocent than she already is, and they are her favorite feature. When she isn’t wearing her uniform, Cadence loves wearing jeans, something that her father introduced to her at a young age. They are very comfortable and they just make her feel happy. She doesn’t really care what she wears, so long as it fits her and is comfortable.
MOST LIKED FEATURE: Her eyes probably. They are normally the thing she is most complimented on, so naturally she believes them to be her best feature, and in turn, most well liked.
MOST HATED FEATURE: Cadence without a doubt hates her knobby knees. She hardly ever gains weight, something she is thankful for, but at the same time, it also means that she has to have boy legs until she actually gets some meat on her bones.
HERITAGE: English, French, Nigerian and who knows what else… ETHNICITY: Afro-Caribbean
"The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure."
GENERAL PERSONALITY: Cadence, just like normal human being has her good and bad personality traits. Some of them just seem more prevalent when someone new meets her for the first time. Cadence is what one would consider a little spacy. She isn’t a total space cadet, but she can have her moments. Most commonly Cadence simply doesn’t pay attention to time, thus leading to being late for nearly everything. Something her brother teases her about immensely. She can also be a little unaware of the world around her. Cadence doesn’t really entertain the thoughts of others. She will listen to what they have to say, but really, she doesn’t care. They aren’t the ones who are important in her world, she is. Cay is what one would call honest. Except she believes in the practice of total honesty. Sure, she can lie about a surprise party, but if she is asked if she thinks that dress looks unflattering on her friend, she will tell it like it is.
She is probably one of the more athletic people she knows. It isn’t that she loves to talk about sports all of the time, or that she is incredibly obsessed with Quidditch, she just loves to be active. Ever since Cay was little, running had always taken her mind off of anything negative, and it still does. Therefore, now with everything that has happened to her, running seems to dominate a bit of her life, and she is more than fine with that. Cadence is a talkative person, she loves being with people who value her presence. She is a people person, loving to talk to others and just be around other human beings. She values her time spent with friends, but Cay also loves her alone time.
Cadence also values what most would consider stereotypical Hufflepuff traits. She is a hard worker, which also makes her a bit of a perfectionist. However, she is hardly loyal. Cadence likes to think that she would stick with her family and friends even in the worst situations… but in all honesty, she knows deep down that she would never be able to, just because she values herself over the group. What good is she if she is dead? But mostly she is just happy to be in a place where all accept her, thus that has translated into her own personality. She doesn’t understand why some people shun based on certain things they cannot control. It just doesn’t seem rational.
HOBBIES: • Painting – It calms her down substantially. • Running – Cadence has always enjoyed the solace that running around the Quidditch Pitch provides. It gives her time to think. • Chess – She has always liked strategic games… probably because her father has always stressed the importance of them. • Quidditch – What self-respecting Witch or Wizard doesn’t like Quidditch. • Researching Seers- She really wants to know if she is normal. Or as normal as a teenaged seer can be. DISLIKES: • Slackers – People who just float by annoy Cadence more than they probably should… Probably comes from her mother. • Blood Purists – It is sort of odd. She doesn’t really think that it totally healthy to keep intermarrying. • Being Lactose Intolerant – What? No ice cream, no pizza. It isn’t a fun allergy. • House elves – Not only because she feels a little bad about telling them to do everything. Mainly it is because they creep her out a little bit. • Illness – No one likes sickness, but in Cay’s opinion, if you are sick, she is going to stay clear of you. She has a fairly weak immune system and is sick more often than she wants to be. • Blood – She freaks out when she sees it, last time she got a bloody nose she nearly fainted. • Physical contact – Sure, a hug is great every once in a while but a constant touch is just unwanted in Cay’s opinion. LIKES: • Class – She had almost gotten sorted into Ravenclaw, so her loving classes should come as no surprise. • Friends – They make Cadence feel important and loved. • Hufflepuff – The house is amazing and while most people push them aside, Cay would rather be a Hufflepuff than any other the other houses. • Food – Cadence is a person who loves to eat. She likes everything, and will pretty much eat whatever is in front of her. So long as it doesn’t have dairy in it. • People Watching – It is probably the best thing since sliced bread. It makes the hours of boredom pass by quickly. • History of Magic - It is just interesting, after all, she can spout off stuff about the future, but she loves learning about the past more. • Dueling – Yeah, Cadence might not seem like someone who would like to fight, but it is actually rather exhilarating. FEARS: • Dogs – One bit her when she was little and now… she can hardly stand the sight of one. • Her visions – They aren’t normal. They are scary, and despite the fact she thinks that it is a gift, the startling frequency is beginning to make her panic. • Her family getting hurt – It has always been something she was afraid of and with her father being in the Order… it is a reasonable fear. • Dying – She doesn’t want to do that for a very, VERY long time. • Failing at anything – She is a bit of perfectionist, so the idea of failing just makes her shudder. SECRETS: • She wants to learn how to cook – She never really has had to before and so the idea of learning is really appealing to her. • Wants to leave the war - She isn’t attached to anyone in the war, apart from her parents, but really… Cadence doesn’t want to fight. • She wanted to be a singer – And she still does to some degree. But unfortunately, her singing voice would probably put a halt to her career. • Her Bogart is herself – She doesn’t know what the visions do to her. She is scared of what might happen if the physical after effects of her visions grow worse. • Feels slightly detached – She knows her family loves her but to be honest, she has a hard time caring about it. She just wants her visions to stop.
"I enjoyed the meetings, too. It was like having friends."
GENERAL HISTORY: Kingsley and Ashia met when they were young, younger than one normally met their spouse but it was love at first site. Or at least it had been for Kingsley. Ashia had needed some coaxing and a few dates before she even admitted she loved the man. However, after a few years of dating, they had gotten married. Shortly after they said ‘I do’ they welcomed a bouncing baby boy. Dylan was the light of their life, followed shortly by Cadence. Cadence Imogene Shacklebolt was born and Kingsley and Ashia were happy. It took a little while before they decided to have another child, but for the time it was just the four of them, everything was grand.
Cadence had a very normal childhood. Or as normal as a little girl who kept getting flashes of the future could. She was taught to know right from wrong and to always stick up for herself. But being the only daughter to her parents, it is very safe to say she was spoiled by the pair. They dressed her up and took her and her older brother on several vacations to the sea side. However at the age of six, her relatively normal life veered into another lane.
When Cadence was six, she had her first vision. It wasn’t pain racking, nor was it scary, to be completely honest, she thought it had been pretty wicked. Because when she came to, her entire family crowded her and praised just what she had done. She wasn’t sure exactly what she had just done, but Cay knew that her family was incredibly proud of her for doing it. As she grew in age, her visions became more and more frequent, something she found exciting. It made her special, it made her feel needed in her family.
Other than her family however, Cadence led a fairly solitary life. It wasn’t as though her parents were trying to sequester her to their house. It was more along the lines that Cay liked to be on her own and her mother and father respected that greatly. So while most girls were playing dolls with each other, Cadence was reading in her room. But in her own company, Cay found her first love. Painting. It provided her an outlet and a way to express some of the intense emotions that came with visions of the future. She also began to play Quidditch with her family.
Quidditch is really what made the Shacklebolt’s function well together. Because almost everyone in the family enjoyed playing to some extent. It provided a way for them all to bond and for Cadence, it also gave her new insight into how much fun flying could be. In her mind, flying was sort of like painting, just you were the brush and the sky was your canvas.
On the week before Cadence’s eleventh birthday, it came. Her brother had already gone to Hogwarts and had been sorted into Hufflepuff, so she had waited for the letter herself, wanting to join him in the hallowed halls of Hogwarts. So as soon as the screech owl entered the house and presented its leg to Cadence, she squealed excitedly and nearly tore the owl’s leg off to get the piece of parchment. It was one of her best memories, touching the slightly weather beaten paper that held the ticket to her future.
She had been sorted into Hufflepuff, just as her brother had the previous year. And while she had been slightly put out at first, she quickly grew used to the idea and was welcomed into the fold of kind and hardworking students. Cadence found that she loved Hogwarts and still does, even though she seems to have more visions at the school than she did at home. And now, they are growing so much worse. Cadence tried to hide the pain she seems to receive every single time she gets a vision, but it is getting near impossible to hide it from her older brother.
FAMILY: • Kingsley Shacklebolt (Father) • Ashia Shacklebolt (Mother) • Dylan Shacklebolt (Older Brother) • Cain Shacklebolt (Younger Brother)
"Make way for the heir of Slytherin, seriously evil wizard coming through..."
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: When Cadence woke up, she had never been able to spring out of bed. It had always been a rather laborious affair that really had never left her in a better mood. So when she heard her mother shouting at her from downstairs to get up, Cadence started her morning routine. She let her long legs kick slowly, trying to work up the energy to actually get out of bed. Then her arms started to move, rising vertically and stretching out in front of her closed eyes. A brief peak into her soft yellow bedroom, before shutting her eyes at the sight of just how bright it was outside.
Grumbling, she squeezed them once and then sat up, swinging her legs so that her feet were touching the hardwood of her bedroom. She stretched her toes and opened her dark brown eyes yet again, a loud yawn exiting her lithe frame. With a large amount of effort, Cay exited the security of her twin bed and shrugged on her neon green robe that was hanging on the post of her bed, and vacated her room to go down to the kitchen. As she walked down to where she sincerely hoped her breakfast was, she looked at several of the photographs on the walls. All blissfully unaware of just what she was doing. Shooting a bleary eye at the portrait of her deceased grandmother, she waved to the woman who grumbled a little in French before shaking her head at the apparently indecent dress her pretty, little granddaughter was in.
As she entered the cluttered kitchen she looked at all of the members of her family spaced throughout it. Her two brothers were fighting at the table over who got the last piece of ham, her dad was reading the paper, his bald head shinning in the sunlight. That had always been a bit of a sore spot for the man. He was never able to deal with the fact that he was completely bald… his three children found it the source of endless amusement. Her mother on the other hand was nowhere to be seen.
“And why are you sleepin’ in dis late?”
There she was.
Whipping around to face her mother, Cadence was slightly relieved that she was smiling and not in any sort of a bad mood.
“Just stayed up a little late doing work mum… nothing to worry about.” She said, lying easily. In all actuality, Cay had simply stayed up until three because she had wanted to do a little research on Cassandra, one of the more famous female seers of the time. Not that her mother needed to know that.
She tuned the woman out as she continued on her usual tirade of how when she was a girl she had only slept for thirty minutes every four days… Looking at her brothers Cay noticed that they were still struggling over that piece of toast and snagged it before either could object, stuffing it in her mouth as she walked up to her room, laughing at the pair who sat at the dining table gaping at her.
Changing quickly into her jogging clothes, Cadence bolted down the stairs and out of the house, shooting a quick, “I’m going on a run!” over her shoulder. That was one thing that she was actually fairly good at. Sure, Cadence was good at school work, but when it came to real world practicality, she was nearly useless.
Running cleared her mind. It made her feel safe and that was all that she wanted. She wanted to feel safe despite the growing fear that she wouldn’t be safe for a long time. Her visions were becoming more and more frequent and unfortunately more and more violent. So… clearing her mind would hopefully help her with her problem, her ever increasing problem that at times, made her want to scream. So maybe, if she could run fast enough it was possible to escape all of the problems that had occurred within the past few months.
Cadence just wanted it all to stop…
"Reading between the lines, I’d say she thinks you’re a bit conceited, mate."
