GENERAL APPEARANCE:
Riley stands about at the height of five foot six and weighs about one-hundred and thirty pounds, making her look very thin and sometimes sickly to those who don’t know her. She has thin limbs and fingers as well, that are only slightly muscled as if she half heartedly does some about of working out but has never went hard core with it. Her skin is lightly tanned, bright and free from any dry spots; however, from time to time she suffers from the dreaded acne break outs.
She has a long oval shaped head with slightly high cheekbones, and a nose that is narrow but not overly long. Her nearly dark chocolate brown eyes are gently rounded, appearing slightly large in some angles. Full lips of a slight pink hue rest below her nose and above her soft, rounded chin. Hairs of brown flow from her head curling down to just near shoulder height. Her hair has a just the right amount of volume to it, making it not flat and not giving her big hair. More times then not, Riley keeps her hair up in a bun or ponytail.
MOST LIKED FEATURE: Her hair
MOST HATED FEATURE: Her legs. Feels they’re too long for her body.
HERITAGE: American
ETHNICITY: Caucasian
"The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure."
GENERAL PERSONALITY:
- Timid: There are times when Riley is very timid, which often happens when she is around large crowds, a lot of people she doesn’t know or when she is around people or teachers she knows she cannot please (social situations). Sometimes the timid side of herself takes control when things get a little out of hand (at least for her). She’s not one for large parties and being put in the spotlight. It’s much safer in the shadows.
- Outgoing: Yes, conflicts with timid, I know but hear me out! When around her friends, people she likes/people that like her, or her favorite teachers, she puts away the timid mask and becomes a laughing barrel of fun, but she’s not the life of the party, that’s for sure.
- Adventurous and Over Zealous: Riley often doesn’t think before acting on many of her adventures she goes on and wait is not a word she understands when she’s on one.
- Stubborn: When an idea gets in her head, good luck getting her to forget about it and telling her not to do something is not an option either, she’ll do it just because someone said not to.
- Easily Remembers Words: Though she has a hard time remembering pictures and diagrams, Riley easily remembers things people have said or things she read in various books. More then once has she found people lying to her.
- Loner: Yeah, that over used loner type but not so much. Though Riley often prefers to be left alone to read a good book, she doesn’t mind a small group of friends to be around but anymore then six seem to bother her.
- Loyal: Loyal is as loyal does. When someone gets Riley as a friend they are often stuck with her for life. She’s ready, willing and able to fight to the death to protect her friends. However, sometimes she becomes over loyal and people take that to their advantage, hurting her in the end.
HOBBIES:
- Reading: Books are a big part of Riley’s life. She reads anything from her class books, wizard and witch books, to nearly any and all books Muggles might have.
- Animals: Magical creatures or the normal Muggle ones. Any sort of animal is a good animal but she has a slight thing against snakes.
- Exploration: Riley loves to explore! There are so many sights, smells, and sounds to be found that its almost overwhelming. On her off time, as long as her work is done, both back in the Muggle world or at Hogwarts one can find Riley on the hunt for a place she’s never been but that sometimes gets her in trouble.
DISLIKES:
- Those who lie and cheat
- Large bodies of water. (ponds, lakes, ect)
- Snakes. Big snakes little snakes.
- The color pink
- Plants that grab her/her things
- Getting hugged by anyone
LIKES:
- Chocolate frogs
- Fruit Juice
- Books
- Classical music
- People that are quiet
- Fireworks (Just not the sound of them)
FEARS:
- Being trapped somewhere with snakes
- Failing (in a class, life, friendship, conversations)
- Making a mistake
SECRETS:
- She wants to see a unicorn
- She thinks house elves look very huggable (but she won't admit this as it's a bit strange)
- She's a terrible speller (but uses a enchanted quill to help this)
- She really dislikes black ink and tries to avoid using it
"I enjoyed the meetings, too. It was like having friends."
GENERAL HISTORY:
Riley was born in the Midwestern USA, on a snowy day in January. From her birth to about age six her life was normal for a muggle. Her older sister, Lilith, teased and cared for her has older siblings often do, her parents took them to the zoo, the park to various amusement parks, just as most children do in their childhoods. Everything was very normal until the strange day when she turned her stuffed animal cat into a very much so live version. Though, this was strange her parents decided that Riley had merely hidden her stuffed animal and brought home a cat because she often said that she wanted one.
When she was eight, her father got a job offer in England and the whole family got moved from their small town life in the States to a busy (and very loud) London. Though the move was hard on the whole family, it seemed extra hard on young, Riley, once during this time she actually set her sister’s coat on fire (her parents never did figure out how). But she adapted just as every child does and soon became very happy with her life in London.
Riley did well in Muggle School, her grades were good and she learned quickly as long as the concepts were in words and not pictures, not that something like that is strange many muggle children are like that, however, what happened in her fourth grade class was not. That day a group of boys made fun of her clothes and her American accent, she became furious (after she had spent much time crying) and turned the boys into several ferrets.
For the first time she realized that, that was no accident by any means and in a panic she rushed home and locked herself in her room. Even with her parents many attempts to get her to unlock the door she refused to and did not come down for dinner. Night fell, it was near midnight when Riley heard a strange tapping sound at her window and when she went to the window, there was an owl of all things pecking at the glass as if wanting in. After a moment of stunned silence, Riley noticed that the owl had a letter it its beak and she opened the window. The bird then swooped in dropped the letter on her desk and flew back out the window as if it had never been there.
No about of words could describe her confusing as she stood holding the letter, it was addressed to her with the oddest coat of arms she had ever seen in the top corner. When Riley finally opened and read the letter (several times and after pinching herself to make sure it wasn’t a dream) her surprise turned into complete and utter joy. There was a reason for the things she did. How she turned the boys into ferrets and the time she set her sister’s dress on fire, she was a witch! And not one of those caccaling green ones either but a nice witch, and there was a school for nice witches just like her.
In the morning, she rushed down stairs showing off the letter to her parents, telling them about the owl that had brought it, turning those mean boys into ferrets and everything. For several moments her parents merely stared at her, thinking it some sort of a joke but the more reasons they tried to come up with that she had made the whole thing up, the more it some how made sense. And just as simply as that, they accepted the fact that she was a witch and sure enough when they went to Diagon Alley they found for themselves that there was a wizarding world. The day that she got on the Hogwarts Express was the happiest day of their lives.
Riley’s first through fourth years were rather uneventful as things at Hogwarts go. She was pretty much the time to remain in the background going good on her work and very well on her Transfiguration spells. Merely the only thing of interest was in the summer before her fifth year when she had finally been able to buy herself a cat, as being non-magical wizard’s money was hard to get and more then once did she have to use used books, robes and other things to get by but she managed it. Hopefully, this year would be far better then the rest. She was no longer going to stay in the shadows and do so so. It was time to try for more then that, as this year was the OWLS year!
FAMILY: Robert Winter (father), Alison Winter (Mother), Lilith Winter (Sister, non-magical)
"Make way for the heir of Slytherin, seriously evil wizard coming through..."
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
The weather was bleak and wet, the sound of rain and the occasional thunder clap was the only thing heard as Riley sat on her desk with her quill, parchment and blue ink finishing up her summer homework. There were days she was jealous of her sister going to Muggle School. They didn’t have homework in the summer but on these gloomy days, it wasn’t so bad. But on those days of beautiful sunshine when she was stuck inside writing a paper on the various stages of growth of the Mandrake plant things became quite annoying as, unlike other students, Riley couldn’t exactly do her homework where everyone muggle on the street could she her. It was hard to imagine the questions and reactions she would get about writing with a quill and ink let along about a plant (and the effects of it) being unknown to them.
Riley put the finished the final sentence of her third sheet of parchment and set back into her chair to relax. ”Finally!” She exhaled in relief as with her Herbology report (which was far from her strong point) was completed. She stretched, tucked the parchment, quill, ink and book out of sight before getting to her feet. It was always important that she kept her wizarding things up and out of sight. Not that her family would mind what she did. Her parents, even her sister were very supportive of her magical gifts even if Lilith was a little jealous of her sister. Riley kept her things and her room looking as normal as possible just in case one of Lilith’s friends found their way into the wrong room. It was better that no one was the wiser.
She popped the last remaining morsel of chocolate frog into her mouth and sat on her bed reading a muggle book when a knock sounded at her door. ”Come in.” Riley called, and in came her sister with a short red-headed girl who looked to be around the age of seventeen or eighteen.
”Hey, Riley. Can I borrow a pack of cards? I thought I had some but I couldn’t find them and we wanted to play a game.”
Book marking her spot in her book, she nodded to Lilith, hopping off her bed and opening up her top dresser drawer, which was more for storage then clothes. Too Riley’s horror as she opened the drawer out hopped a chocolate frog. She let out a squeak of a cry, snatching the frog out of midair and sticking it back the drawer as she tossed a pack of cards toward her sister.
Lilith seemed quite content to pretend nothing happened and her friend didn’t seem to say much either. As the door to her room closed, she took another sigh of relief and bit the head off the chocolate frog. ”That was a close one.” She mumbled.
"Reading between the lines, I’d say she thinks you’re a bit conceited, mate."
