( hey, soul sister ) ( ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Though there was nothing Piper loved more than curling up next to a warm fire with a good book, it was sometimes hard for her to resist stepping outdoors when the day was as beautiful as this one. The sky was the purest blue, with a few scattered clouds here and there that looked just as picturesque as one could imagine. It was slightly colder, seeing as it was the middle of fall, but the crisp cool air was too much to resist – it was perfect outdoor weather. Even better, it was the perfect weather to debut the new sweater she’d received from her grandmother – it would certainly keep her pleasantly warm as she enjoyed the cool breeze outside.
After dressing warmly in her light blue cashmere sweater complete with brown scarf wrapped snugly around her neck, Piper packed up her shoulder bag with everything she would need for a calm day outside, which was basically everything she needed for a calm day inside as well. She easily slid her homework into the bag along with a couple of textbooks she would need to compose the essay she was working on. After that came a couple spare quills and a bottle of ink, and then as a last minute thought, she added a couple more books, these ones just for fun, in case she somehow couldn’t find the motivation for her homework. She doubted that would happen, but she supposed it was better to be safe.
Piper slung the bag over her shoulder and walked briskly out of Gryffindor Tower. It didn’t take her very long to be out of the castle – normally when she walked through the hallways she was very quick, keeping her head down so as not to be recognized by anyone she may have had some bad experiences with. She had a thought to stop by the kitchens and ask the house elves for a little snack to take with her outside but decided against it in the end, not wanting to bother them if they were busy or anything.
Once she was outside she immediately felt better, less nervous. The cool air hit her face, waking up her just a bit more and putting a gentle smile on her face. Piper had always been a friend of nature and sometimes enjoyed just being outside, even if she wasn’t do much of anything there. There were a few students around the grounds that Piper could see had the same thoughts as she – some appeared to be studious in their convictions as she was, while others were just hanging around, having fun with their groups of friends. Piper wasn’t one to romp around the grounds with her friends, or really act rambunctiously at all, so instead of all that she merely headed down towards the lake, intent on finding her favorite spot to sit in and enjoy the rest of her day.
Her boulder, surprisingly, was sitting there peacefully, unoccupied as though it were waiting especially for her. It was settled beneath a shady tree right at the water’s edge, and Piper found it the most pleasant place to work, or even to just sit and think and observe, all of which she had done there before in the past. But today she was here to get some work done, so she didn’t take long in settling atop the large rock and pulling her textbooks out of her bag, sticking her nose into it right away. It was sort of amazing the way that Piper could get lost in a book no matter what it contained – even a textbook was incredibly intriguing to her. So as she sat there quietly, soaking up the calm around her and getting immersed in her book, the world around her seemed to fade away. There wasn’t much that could bring Piper back around when she was this far gone – that is, until someone found the need to disrupt her. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -( the way you move ain't fair, you know ) ( words ) 658 ( lyrics ) hey, soul sister by train ( credit ) SUGARSARAH at CAUTION 2.0! Despite the chilly weather that was predicted to be around all day, and for the next few days at that, as Amy finished up her breakfast she felt the need to get outside and just move. She wasn't used to being stuck indoors for so long, but she personally hated cold weather. Sure, she could bubble herself, and not even feel most of the wind chill, but the spell always left her itching, and she couldn't stand to be under it for too long. That ruled out swimming and quidditch. There was no way she would be able to concentrate if she was itchy, and Amy would rather not play the sport at all then play it knowing she was just going to make herself look bad. But then a thought hit her. Fur. Fur was warm. Fur wasn't itchy. A slow smile spread across her face, and Amy excused herself from her group of friends seated at the Gryffindor table, climbing over the bench seat and slinging her bad over her shoulder. What she really needed to do that morning was get some of her weekend homework done, but Amy had never passed up an opportunity for fun just to do homework, and she knew she had all night to get some of her workload done. So after dropping her bag off at the Gryffindor common room, Amy finally headed outside.
Only to frown in disappointment. The chilly weather did little to deter the other students at Hogwarts from being outside as well. A quick scan of the lawns told her that it was too busy for her to try and sneak off into the woods and transform into her fox Animagus form. She would most likely be seen. And Amy knew she couldn't have that. Not only was she unregistered, but only Professor Potter and Edward Brody knew what she was, and Amy wasn't ready to come clean about it just yet. So with a defeated sigh, Amy scanned the grounds once more, contemplating heading out to the Pitch to check out who was around, but then her eyes fell on a very familiar face.
Piper 'Andy' Lupin.
Amy's face broke into a satisfied grin, and she quickened her pace as she made her way over to Piper. When she hadnt appeared in the great hall for breakfast, Amy hadn't worried, and now she realized where Piper had taken off to. As Amy neared the girl, she realized that Piper had her nose stuck in a book, and she frowned slightly. Not that she didn't like reading; she loved it in fact. But Amy also knew that once Piper was stuck in a book, she was hard to bring back to reality. Amy's first thought was to sneak up on her, maybe jolt her out of her book, but she quickly ruled that out as a little rude. She didn't want to scare her friend, just talk and chill for a bit. So, arms crossed, Amy approached Piper slowly, wondering who she was being today, Piper or Andy, and then sidled up to the Gryffindor and nestled her shoulder against the rock Piper was seated on, leaning against it to support her. "Watcha reading?" Amy asked nonchalantly, staring out over the lake before glancing over at her friend.

( hey, soul sister ) ( ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -History of Magic wasn’t a subject that most found interesting to learn about – in fact, Piper was amongst the select few seventh years that had chosen to continue taking the subject even after they were no longer required to – but she just loved reading histories of any kind, seeing as they were just so complex and adventurous. It was like the best type of adventure because it was one that had actually happened, back in the day, and could very well happen again if the circumstances arose. Not that anyone was really expecting that to happen, but hey, if it did, Piper would be well prepared. Really, those others should have taken the class – it could be life saving.
Piper was just getting to the climax of a rather heated battle between trolls and goblins (not as one-sided as you might think; those goblins could be clever little buggers when they wanted to be) when somewhere in her present subconscious she heard the sound of footsteps coming closer. Normally she would have ignored such audio, but since these sounds seemed to keep getting progressively closer, her ears somehow alerted her brain of possible oncoming confrontation, or at least a disturbance of some sort. Her eyes didn’t want to stop – they kept at the page, streaming along each line of words and consuming their meanings as though they were breakfast – but eventually she was forced to come out of her historical trance when she sensed another presence invading the space of her very special rock.
Just as she lifted her head in slight confusion, there was the head of a girl on her shoulder, causing Piper to jump slightly in surprise. She definitely hadn’t been expecting such close contact so soon, especially when she didn’t even know who this person was. However, quick analysis of the girl’s light blonde hair, followed by her sweet voice innocently questioning, "Watcha reading?" immediately clued her in, and she relaxed a little bit, her racing heart slowing once more to a normal pace. This wasn’t an intruder… this was just Amy.
“It’s um…just…” she struggled only a short moment while grasping for the words, showing her friend the covering and gesturing to the title. “Magical Conflicts and Questions,” she finally clarified, shrugging her shoulders lightly, seeing as she didn’t think this was something that would be of much interest to Amy. She knew that History of Magic wasn’t the subject for everybody. Actually, most of the students in her year had been rather ecstatic when they were finally free of the tedious class. Piper couldn’t understand that kind of excitement for less knowledge, but she supposed she wasn’t going to be one to judge others on their convictions.
“Homework… sort of,” Piper added sheepishly, not really caring to explain that she had passed the chapter she’d been assigned to read several hundred pages back. The professor had warned her about reading ahead, but really, it wasn’t exactly her fault when the textbooks were so intriguing. She was defenseless against them, honestly. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -( the way you move ain't fair, you know ) ( words ) 506 ( lyrics ) hey, soul sister by train ( credit ) SUGARSARAH at CAUTION 2.0! The moment that Jake's eyes opened that morning it had been decided. Today was a running day. He rolled out of bed and grabbed for a pair of his running shorts and then tugged a plain black t-shirt over his head. He laced up each sneaker on autopilot and then tossed on a hoodie, knowing just by looking out the window that he would probably need it. Hell, he probably should have been wearing a pair of pants, but he knew once he got running he wouldn't care. He hurried out of Gryffindor tower, pulling at his arms in a stretch, already excited for the cool air, the fresh feeling of being out in the elements.
Since the Great Hall was hardly out of the way, he stepped in for a moment, a hand reaching out for a piece of toast off the nearest table, before he darted out, finishing the toast by the time he reached the large double doors of the castle. Normally he was all about having a good breakfast, what with it being the most important meal of the day and all, but some things were just more important. Like a really good run on what was clearly a very beautiful day.
Once Jake passed the front steps and started running, everything else became a blur. The cool air woke him up even more than the toast had, but each step lulled him into a comfortable sense of calm. It was always like this, everything disappeared but the next step he was about to take. He hit a good rhythm, and he felt everything just ravel away as he pushed on. His days were always better when he got to start them with runs. He didn't know what it was, but he always felt lighter, his head clearer, than if he had simply done something else.
He ran for a while longer, shoes crunching into the ground, taking turns in the shape of a path he'd taken many times before. He skimmed the forest's edge, passing by it for a while before he turned towards the lake. The lake was probably his favorite spot in all of Hogwarts. Whether he be swimming in it, running alongside it, or just taking a breather. Over his years at Hogwarts, it was one of the places that held the most memories. That's probably why he started to slow as he neared. His eyes swept across the top, watching the ripples as he took a deep breath of the fresh air. He was planning on just taking the smallest of breaks, until his eyes landed on a very familiar spot of rock a little farther away. Sitting on top of it was Piper, her head buried in a book. He could tell instantly that it was her today, and not Andy, by the dark hair that covered her head, as opposed to the bright blonde that Andy much preferred. His lips turned up in a small smile, instantly so happy that he'd decided to take a breather. His plans had instantly shifted in that moment, no longer did the idea of running seem enough for him. Piper was always able to outshine any and all things that competed for his attention. That was just how it always had been.
Jake jogged the rest of the way there, his stomach curling with the slightest hint of butterflies as he got closer. Before he'd reached her side however, Amy See had settled in beside her. He could tell that Piper had been startled, at least a little bit, and noting that she'd been reading just before, he wasn't surprised. Piper always had her head in a book, nose buried as she turned page after page. It was endearing, really, especially because it seemed like she was always ahead in the reading in any class they shared. He was all for reading, loved it even, but he hardly ever strived past the assigned limits, there were always just other things to do.
"Hey there Amy," Jake greeted as he came to a stop beside the two girls. He let out a huff of a breath and turned his eyes on Piper. "And of course you too, bookworm." His full grin came out in that moment, and he was unable to hold back the force of it. Something about Piper always had him smiling, he could never pinpoint it. He leaned back against a nearby tree, feeling the hard bark press into his shoulder blades through the rather thin layers of his hoodie and t-shirt. He could feel the goosebumps on his legs now, and he felt himself wishing that he actually had taken the time to find some pants instead, but he wasn't about to leave now. Not when he'd just stumbled upon his favorite person out there, in his favorite place.

As soon as Amy's head hit Piper's shoulders, she realized her mistake. The shoulder was tense, but immediately relaxed. Of course. She should have known better than to approach her friend without at least making her presence known. But Amy had'nt thought about it at the time, she had just been glad to spot her friend out on the lawn. A quick glance up at the smile playing at the corner of Piper's mouth told Amy what mood she was in today. Her friend was happy, being herself. She was Piper today.
Amy glanced at the book cover when Piper turned it over in her hands, and then scrambled away from the boulder with a mockingly disgusted "ugh", just as Piper lifted her shoulder in a small shrug. "Magical Conflicts and Questions?" Amy repeated, crossing her arms and leaning a shoulder against the boulder. History of Magic had always been her least favorite subject, much like everyone else she knew. But of course, Amy had never held t against her friend for liking the subject, and she rather enjoyed the playful bickering the subject usually insued. Amy's argument was always always ''whats past is past. Let's live for today," earning her an eye-rolling and cold shoulder for an hour from Piper. Granted, Amy loved to read as well, and they did share many favorites, but Amy's taste in books were more..Muggle type. And most definately not text books.
Not wanting to start an accidental argument so soon in the day, Amy opened her mouth to change the subject when another body joined them, huffing and out of breath. Amy recognized the face immediately, and broke into a grin. "Sup Jay." She used her pet name for him. They had met through Piper, and Amy had known Jake for years. He was like a brother to her. Not to mention Amy had been begging Jake to try out for the quidditch team for years, but he had never indulged her. He was athletic, and in Amy's opinion would be good for quidditch, but he was more likely to be found running or in the lake than on the field.
Standing off to the side, Amy watched Jake grin at Piper, and felt a tug at her heart. He was so in love with her, it was obvious to nearly everyone Amy knew, save for Piper of course, the one person who really mattered. She seemed to be completely clueless, and of course Amy knew she would never say anything to Piper herself about it. It wasn't her place. With an inward sigh, Amy pushed herself off of the rock and uncrossed her arms before joining Piper atop the boulder. "Glad you're here Jay. Between the two of us maybe we can convince Piper to do something other than waste this beautiful day reading History of Magic." Amy nudged her friend's shoulder lightly with hers, grinning.

( hey, soul sister ) ( ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -It didn’t surprise Piper in the least that Amy pretended to jump away in mock disgust once she learned of the title of Piper’s reading interest and associated it with its corresponding subject. She knew that Amy had a particular distaste for the subject, as most people did, so it never really surprised her. She knew better than to attempt to sway her classmates into appreciating the subject – she’d been scorned for that far too many times at this point, so now she just settled for being in the class and being happy about it. She’d rather keep the haters out of the classroom anyways – they’d only ruin the mood.
Piper shrugged again, not really sure what to say in response. She’d done enough defense of herself over the years – now she knew better and decided to just take it. She flipped back to her page, hoping to at least finish the main details. She couldn’t very well just leave her reading hanging at such a crucial cliffhanger. However, the world simply didn’t want her to know how the trolls eventually fared against the sneaky little goblins, since yet another distraction came along, in the form of a voice of another that had joined them. "Hey there Amy," came an incredibly familiar voice, and it didn’t take long for Piper’s head to jump up, eyes immediately catching on the boy in front of her, her automatic smile too strong to even hope to stifle, not that she would ever want to, of course.
"And of course you too, bookworm," Jake added teasingly, causing her to narrow her eyes slightly as she gave a shy smirk, a flush of pink rushing to her cheeks. Piper should have known to expect him out here eventually – being such an avid running enthusiast, he also wasn’t one to pass up such a clear day. That was just another thing that the two of them had in common, amongst many others. Piper rolled her eyes slightly as she looked at him, but her gaze quickly dropped down to his rather revealing shorts that were accenting quite a bit of his legs. Her eyes widened only for a moment before they quickly looked down, her cheeks turning an even brighter pink than before. “It’s only homework…” Piper muttered sheepishly, knowing her little eye roaming would most likely not go unnoticed by Jake. She also knew that Jake wouldn’t believe for a second she hadn’t finished her homework hours ago and was continuing on merely for her own amusement. Her eyes turned down towards her book, now a tad bit embarrassed as the two seemingly ganged up on her. Couldn’t a girl just read in peace?
"Sup Jay," came Amy’s greeting to Jake, and her voice was almost a reminder that she was even there. Piper couldn’t help but look up at her, giving her a strange, hard look as her lips were set together in a tense line. She couldn’t help it, but she had to admit it made her blood boil to hear her call her best friend by that weird nickname. She’d used it for a long time now, ever since the two had known each other, but never once had she picked up on the fact that he didn’t like it. His name was Jake, anyhow… one syllable, easy enough to say. Piper didn’t understand how one was to make a one syllable name shorter. It only appeared to Piper that Amy was merely desperate for some sort of pet name that only she called him, perhaps in the hopes of winning some sort of affection from Jake, which was, admittedly, the main source of her heated tension. It was pathetic, really… the way she almost seemed to throw herself at him. Admittedly, Jake was a pretty good looking guy – it would only be natural for any girl to want to be with him – but really, acting needy was not attractive in any sense... at least to Piper, anyways.
It was only when Amy continued to speak that Piper realized she’d been bordering on glaring at Amy, and she quickly composed herself and looked back down at her book, her cheeks hot with embarrassment. She had no right to be jealous of girls with Jake – it’s not like they were together, anyways. Though she pretended to be wrapped up once more in her reading, she listened to Amy’s next words, though she couldn’t lie – she didn’t much enjoy what they were saying. "Glad you're here Jay. Between the two of us maybe we can convince Piper to do something other than waste this beautiful day reading History of Magic."
“It’s homework!” Piper repeated insistently, her voice taking on a whining tone. Didn’t she understand that this was exactly how Piper was enjoying the clear weather? She could have just as easily been doing what she was doing holed up inside, but no, she’d chosen to walk herself out here and sit outside, soaking up the sun and breathing the fresh air. And if anyone cared to know, she had rather been enjoying herself doing it. But it seemed that no one really cared to listen to her wishes anymore – she was just a waste of a clear day. Well, it was nice to know what people honestly thought sometimes.
“And if anyone cares to know, it’s actually a very interesting subject and it can be very useful in the future so I wouldn’t be so quick to discount it!” Piper stubbornly added in a rush, her voice slightly strangled as her throat closed up, the first sign that she was on her way to shedding tears, though she desperately didn’t want to do that at this moment. She didn’t know why she always got so emotional, but she had to admit that it was just downright embarrassing sometimes. But really, Jake was her best friend, and Amy was supposed to be, so they should honestly know better by now than to get Piper worked up. It just wouldn’t work out for anybody. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -( the way you move ain't fair, you know ) ( words ) 1,009 ( lyrics ) hey, soul sister by train ( credit ) SUGARSARAH at CAUTION 2.0! One of Jake's favorite things was being able to coax a blush out of Piper. Granted, it wasn't all that hard, but that just meant he got to see it happen more often than not. Like right now, Piper was flushing over a little nickname. Granted, he knew she was only reacting to the slight bit of teasing on his end, but it didn't really matter to him. The blush was undeniably cute. He kept his eyes on her, watching as she looked down, and he noticed that her eyes were actually looking down him, as if she were checking him out. She quickly stopped, though, her eyes averting and her cheeks reddening even more so. He couldn't help the slight smirk that tugged at the corners of his lips. It wasn't often that he caught her looking at him, and regardless of the fact that it didn't really mean anything, it still made him feel good. How could it not?
"It's only homework..." He let her get away with the looking, embarrassing her in front of Amy would just be plain mean, but he wouldn't let that line slide. Only homework? He seriously doubted that homework was what Piper was working on, not unless she'd somehow gotten a list of future assignments to start. Which he highly doubted. He opened his mouth to tease, but another voice broke out instead. "Sup Jay," Jake's eyes darted back to Amy, and he nodded, his smile unconsciously falling ever so slightly at the nickname. It was one he'd never gotten used to, but he let it continue on because he wasn't just going to demand her to change it. Amy was his friend, so really, she could call him whatever she wanted, it's not like it bothered him that much. He turned his smile wattage up a bit, making up for the stray thought, and stretched his arms across his chest. "Glad you're here Jay. Between the two of us maybe we can convince Piper to do something other than waste this beautiful day reading History of Magic." Jake huffed out a small laugh, his eyes glancing back over to Piper. It was true, it would have been nice to do something different, maybe try to get Piper to come out of her shell a little bit, but he would hardly call what Piper was doing wasting the day. He was about to voice just that, when Piper had something of an outburst.
"It's homework!" As soon as the whine came out, Jake knew that they were in for a bit of trouble. Piper wasn't very loud spoken or outgoing, but if she felt provoked, she didn't hold back much. At least with the people she was most comfortable with. He winced unconsciously as she continued on, “And if anyone cares to know, it’s actually a very interesting subject and it can be very useful in the future so I wouldn’t be so quick to discount it!” He could hear how her voice became strained by emotion, prickly and defensive, she clearly felt cornered and attacked and that was the absolute last thing that he ever wanted her to feel. He pushed off the tree, coming forward a few steps to bridge some of the gap between them. He threw a hesitant glance at Amy before turning his eyes back to Piper, fully focusing on her.
"Hey now," He started, legs folding into a crouch to take him down to her level. His hand reached out to rest gently on her shoulder, his eyes clear and watching her. He didn't want her to cry, he could see it in her eyes and in the way she held herself, so much more tense than she had been a moment ago. He just wanted to pull her forward into a hug, wanted to tuck her head under his chin and hold her until the feeling passed. But he wasn't going to do that. Instead he'd defuse the situation with his words. He hoped, anyway. "I don't discount History of Magic at all, Pip. Especially when it's you talking about it." He gave her a small grin, eyes watching for a change in her mood. "Hell, I probably should still be taking it." His eyes flickered over to Amy, then, as he added, "And I'm sure Amy can at least appreciate some aspects of the subject, right Amy?" This time his eyes stayed on Piper's waiting for her to crack a smile. "She might even secretly love the class and all this blatant bashing is just because she's jealous that you're still taking it when she isn't. Maybe we can convince her to just go with it and admit the love, huh?" He chuckled lightly, and nudged her in the shoulder, hoping his ridiculousness would pull her out of her sudden negative mood. If it didn't, he may resort to silly, stupid faces, and other juvenal means to get at least a little giggle. He didn't care about looking like an ass if that meant that she'd be smiling again.

Amy's eyes had been on Jake, the look Piper had given her had gone unnoticed. By the time Amy glanced her way, the smile had replaced the glare, and Amy had no idea what had ran through her friend's mind. It wasn't as if she has ever liked Jake was more than a friend, and had never felt the need to explain that to her friend. It was obvious from the way the two looked at each other, and the smiles only they could coax out, what was going on with Jake and Piper. Or maybe it was just that Amy could read people pretty well.
Unknown to Jake or Piper, Amy had always been jealous of Jake. In her mind, she had met Piper first, and wanted desperately to help her. She was her best friend, and wanted to be the one to make her smile. But then Jake had entered the picture, and Amy always felt like a third wheel when he was around, leading her to feel disgusted for being jealous of him. All in all though, she wanted what was best for Piper.
As soon as the whine entered her friend's voice, Amy stiffened slightly, mentally slapping herself for being the one to cause the trouble that was about to be caused. Not that she had done it on purpose, but she should have known to let the subject slide. Way to go she thought, turning towards Piper and holding her hands up and out in front of her, a peaceful stance. The last thing she wanted was to stress out her best friend and put her in a bad mood.
"And I'm sure Amy can at least appreciate some aspects of the subject, right Amy?" This time his eyes stayed on Piper's waiting for her to crack a smile. "She might even secretly love the class and all this blatant bashing is just because she's jealous that you're still taking it when she isn't. Maybe we can convince her to just go with it and admit the love, huh?"
Amy nodded slowly in agreement, smiling broadly at Piper, trying to help coax her out of her mood, but knowing any attempt from her was wasted what Jake was around. Not that she hadn't learned to mind it. "In fact, you know what Piper?" Amy shrugged slightly, stuffing her hands in her pockets and grinning sheepishly. "I'm going to take that class with you this year. I bet I will learn something useful." Amy blushed slightly, hoping this would at least help cheer Piper up at least. It was only one semester; it could be fun. Plus, it would give them more time to hang out. "Would you mind?" TAG ?! piper/jake NOTES ?! CREDIT ?! Hey it's SHMEY! @ caution 2.0 <3

( hey, soul sister ) ( ain't that mister mister on the radio, stereo ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Piper didn’t much enjoy being extremely sensitive – it caused her more upset than a normal person probably would experience in their lifetime – but then again it wasn’t really something she could control. Especially at the moment, when, in her eyes, two of her best friends were seemingly ganging up on her, teasing her about something innocent that she just happened to enjoy. Any normal person would have just shrugged it off, perhaps taken a friendly swipe at anyone who tried to make fun of them in such a manner, but Piper wasn’t that way. She took everything personally, and something like this was just too much. Jake especially shouldn’t be tormenting her like this… she didn’t know what she’d ever done to him. And even though she tried to conceal her feelings from him, somehow he easily caught on that he’d crossed a line, entering Piper’s unstable emotional territory, and he seemed anxious to correct what he’d done as he knelt down, coming to her level and looking into her eyes encouragingly.
As Jake placed his hand on her shoulder, Piper looked up at him reluctantly, her lips set in a dead line and verging on a frown, which he would easily recognize as her pouty, hurt face. “Hey now,” he started off softly, giving her an encouraging smile. She had to admit, his tone was only really making her feel more self-conscious, more aware of the fact that she really shouldn’t be overreacting like this and making it such a big deal, but she said nothing to stop Jake as he continued on, "I don't discount History of Magic at all, Pip. Especially when it's you talking about it." That of course elicited a small blush that rose to color Piper’s cheeks a light pink, and she averted her eyes from his in embarrassment. He went on to say something about how Amy must secretly love the subject and all, but his words pretty much ran together for Piper, seeing the whole thing as nothing more than a patronizing stream of words strewn together just to calm her down, which should have been unnecessary in the first place
Just as Jake finished his little motivational speech, Amy pitched in with her own encouragement. “You know what Piper?” Piper’s head glanced weakly over towards Amy, her eyebrows raised expectantly. "I'm going to take that class with you this year. I bet I will learn something useful." It was a kind enough gesture, Piper figured, but she knew Amy didn’t really mean it for herself. It was just something to say to get Piper to cheer up a bit. Kind, but unnecessary.
"Would you mind?" Amy asked, as though it were Piper’s job to give her permission to take a class. Piper shrugged in response, muttering, “You don’t have to.” She wouldn’t want to be responsible for Amy putting herself into a situation that wouldn’t be enjoyable for her anyways. If Amy was unhappy in the class, it would certainly drag down Piper’s own mood, and neither of them would want that. “It’s not for everyone,” she added on lamely, doing an terrible job of talking her out of it but a great job at looking totally pathetic.
“Can I just read my book now, or am I not allowed?” Piper said a little bitterly, wondering if they would force her to do something other than read her textbook for amusement. She looked expectantly back at Jake, questioning, “What else are we gonna do?” Piper doubted anything they came up with would be more enjoyable than what she had already been doing, but she supposed she would have to go along with whatever it would be. She didn’t want to waste her friends’ time after all. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -( the way you move ain't fair, you know ) ( words ) 625 ( lyrics ) hey, soul sister by train ( credit ) SUGARSARAH at CAUTION 2.0! Jake could tell instantly that his words had done little to sooth Piper, her face remaining pretty much unchanged upon him finishing. He hadn't been sure they would work, but knowing that they really hadn't was a little frustrating. He didn't want her to feel bad over this History of Magic thing there was nothing wrong with the subject. He just wished there was something more he could do.
Amy offered joining up and taking the class with her, and Jake frowned. It was sweet, truly, but he didn't know that it would make anything better. "You don't have to," Piper responded, her voice low. "It's not for everyone." It really wasn't, that was one reason that Jake wasn't taking it. He didn't discount the class or not find it interesting at times, he just couldn't fully get into it. He hoped that that would be the final word on that block of the conversation, and he waited silently to see if she'd say anything else.
"Can I just read my book now, or am I not allowed?" The corners of Jake's mouth turned down at her tone, but he knew he couldn't blame her. The both of them had probably been a little too pushy, and now Piper was obviously not all that thrilled to be around them. He got it, but the bitterness in her voice still made him feel bad. She looked back at him then, and asked, "What else are we gonna do?" She stared at him expectantly, waiting for him to come up with some idea that would rival her reading. He was taken off guard for a moment, his mouth hanging slightly open for a second before he clamped it shut and when quickly to thinking of something.
"We could...uh..." He bit his lip, concentrating on thinking of something that would seem fun to Piper. "A nice chat is always fun, you know...or..." He had a sudden thought that he could offer to teach her how to swim again, but that was quickly shot down by the cool breeze that passed by, reminding him that it wasn't exactly swimming weather. He sighed, irritated with himself that he couldn't actually think of anything else. All he could think of was talking, reading, homework, running...none of which seemed to be all that exciting. "Or the two of you could always join me on the rest of my run, but I doubt that's something you'd want to do." He shrugged, shooting Piper a small smile. "Unless you have a better idea, Amy?" He asked, turning his head Amy's way, questioning. She was bound to have something in mind, at least that's what he was hoping because he was fresh out of ideas.
