This was ridiculous! She loved the ideas of galas and getting dressed up, she truly did, but the idea of her date?! Well, it was infuriating, to say the very least. I swear, this has to be the stupidest thing ever. Sure, I love balls, but they're making me go with a poof? And not just any poof, a Hufflepuff poof! she thought irritably. Yet she knew closing her eyes and counting to ten would not improve the situation in the least. She was going to have to get dressed up to the nines and just put up with a Hufflepuff boy. However, being a poof, he thankfully would likely not put his hands all over her. Thank Merlin! She hated it when boys thought she was nothing more than a pretty doll that they could twist and lead around to wherever they wished for her to go. She wasn't anyone's toy, and anyone who made that fatal mistake was going to get a lot more than a swift kick to the groin. She would make them pay!
Smirking to herself at that thought, she looked through her wardrobe. She was going to be a beautiful and hot mess when she was finished because she refused to be anything less. Some may have thought of her as a Victorian doll, but she was a beauty queen, as well. She liked looking fashionable and being the envy of the crowd. She did have rather good fashion sense, if she could say so herself. She pulled on a gown and matching silver gold jewelry accented with amethysts which matched her dark purple gown yet contrasted sharply in a way that looked good. She also wore a purple feathered hat and the silver 'Dolohov' locket that had been in her father's family for eons, she was told. It was something that her great grandmother had given her once when she visited her. It was the only thing she had liked about the moldy smelling woman - she sure knew how to give gifts. She once gave Nevan a solid gold goblet. The woman seemed to know that no one wanted to be around her, so she gave good gifts to ensure people liked her. Eponine had no problem with that, especially if she were on the receiving end of such gifts.
She checked her hair and her make-up putting on a lavender eye shadow and eye liner along with black mascara and a pale purple lipstick that shimmered in the light. She would certainly be 'shiny'. She figured that she and her Slytherin cohorts would likely be the best dressed people there. She just hoped her date would be one of the gay men that had good taste in clothing. Some of them did, and others were just as clueless as their straight counterparts. It was irritating. Knowing her luck, she would have one of the ones that didn't know how to dress properly. He just better not grate on her nerves. Bitterly, she rolled her icy blue eyes, sighing heavily. Why she had to be paired with Kalin of all people she'd never know. Of course, Dumbledore probably thought that they should be social with people they didn't know, but that was entirely stupid. Why would she bother talking to someone who wasn't a pureblood? She didn't like dealing with halfbloods or mudbloods. What was the point? It wasn't like they were even humans.
They were less than humans. They were more like apes trying to pretend that they were humans when every good pureblood was assured that they weren't. She didn't know why blood traitors even existed. How could they possibly think that mudbloods and half-bloods were even worth knowing? It was disgusting should one ask her, but she sincerely doubted that would happen. Sighing heavily, she ran a hand through her blonde tresses before she tapped her hair with her wand. She couldn't have a strand of hair out of place.
She pulled her satin gloves up her arms, scowling as they fell down a bit. She didn't like the tendency that gloves had to fall down a bit whilst one was wearing them. She didn't like that they came untied so easily, either. Brandishing her wand as if it were some sort of dagger she repaired that quite easily with the use of some charms. Smiling appreciatively at the effort, she was glad when the gloves finally stayed put. Finally, something that evening was going right. She slipped into a pair of black and purple high heels, feeling that a bit of height couldn't hurt her. She was five foot three and people always made fun of her because of her childlike appearance. With the aid of her heels she was now more like five foot five or five foot six which seemed the average height of most girls.
Eponine then made her way down the Slytherin girl's dormitory and into the common room. She ignored the wolf whistles and stares of some of her less than mature peers and pressed into the already crowded hallway, trying hard not to roll her eyes. She pushed past people she considered inferior to her and slipped into empty corridors, heading toward the Great Hall with some difficulty. Despite it's beauty, her dress was more than a bit heavy and a little awkward to handle with her high heels. However, having years of practice in both heels and dresses she handled the challenge with grace, poise, and eloquence. She wasn't about to allow a dress to get her down. She saw a Gryffindor boy standing in front of her her and pushed him firmly out of her way, not caring that he slammed head first into a wall as he did so. She was going to get into the Great Hall before he did. She would make sure of it. Slipping into the Great Hall like a swan gliding upon the waters of a lake or pond, she flitted about like a faerie princess looking for her ball date.
