Getting ready for any sort of event was something that Jac spent a good deal of time on. She always wanted to be able to pride herself in how she looked, simply because she loved clothes so much. It was something that had been instilled in her from a very young age, the importance of looking good, and how fashion should be something you have fun with, and care about, not something that's simply an after thought. Jac can only remember one occasion that her mother wore dress robes (since she was much more fond of Muggle fashion, she found it to be freeing...Jac would agree) and they happened to have been the most out there robes in existence. While Jac was very fond of fashion, she never really dressed quite as outrageously as her mother, though she wasn't afraid of trying something different if it fit her taste.[/color]
Jac had spent the weeks leading up to the ball daydreaming almost constantly about what she wanted to wear. There were just so many options, so many different directions that she could go in, and she didn't know what to pick. She hadn't actually been sure until the day before. She'd been caught between three dresses, one of which was full length and a shimmery silver. The other had been the deepest of blacks, short and ruffly. But in the end both dresses just didn't seem right. The silver one too long to properly dance in, and the black simply too tight to breath in. Comfort was very important to her. In the end the dress she settled on was simple and yet unique.
The dress was white and strapless, the waist pulled tightly in without making it uncomfortable. Jac loved the detail of the paneling, and the tulle too (though at first it was a bit itchy). She was happy with her choice, glad that she had a comfortable dress to wear that was also perfectly acceptable for the event. It was also easy to get into, which Jac was quite thankful for being that everyone else was probably too busy getting themselves ready to tie her in if she'd needed the favor. Sure, they probably would have helped her out but she would have hated to ask.
Once the dress was taken care of, hair and make up were next. She didn't do much with her hair, simply give it a good comb through and charming out any of the stubborn kinks was good in her book. She wasn't a very big fan of elaborate updos, and she was never all that happy with how she looked with curls. Her make up was a whole different story. Jac kept close to her mirror, applying every ounce of make up with care. It was tedious work, but Jac loved it. She'd had her subtle colors picked out even before she'd picked between her dresses, knowing that they'd look great with any of the options. If she hadn't picked the colors beforehand she probably would have missed the beginning of the ball, and just the thought alone gave her slight anxiety. She hated walking in late.
By the time Jac was ready most of her fellow housemates were already gone. She knew she wasn't late, of course, but seeing the nearly empty common room made her speed up in her heels. Being late, especially when she had a date, was a horrible thought to her. Expecially when she didn't know her date very well. She'd been paired up with Raleigh Morozova, a Ravenclaw in her year that she hadn't really had the pleasure of getting to know very well over all her years at Hogwarts. In fact, she couldn't remember them having a single conversation. Sure, she knew who he was, she knew his face quite well. She'd been in classes with him since her first year, after all. They just had never worked together, or run into each other. And that was really a shame, because he seemed like a pretty nice guy. Of course that just meant they'd have to make up for all that lost time tonight.
Unless he didn't like her, which Jac always ended up worrying about. She knew she was a nice girl, but she let her imagination run away from her too often. Usually she ended up worrying that
someone out there had an intense distaste for her, and that she'd be forced into their presence at some point. It wasn't like she had to have everyone like her, it just made her very uncomfortable. So as she headed down to the Great Hall she couldn't help the nervous butterflies fluttering around in her stomach.
They'd shared the quickest of words after Charms class the day before, deciding to meet just outside the doors to the Great Hall a few minutes before the start of the ball. So that's where Jac hurried as she ascended the stairs from down below and pushed through into the Entrance Hall. Her eyes roved around the many people in the hall as she made her way across it. She'd never seen so many different colors in the castle at once, it was a gorgeous site. She found herself smiling, already feeling a thrill of excitement for the night's events. She arrived at the designated spot right on time, and it's there that she waited for Raleigh to join her. She smoothed out the skirt of her dress carefully, just to have something to do, and smiled at a few familiar faces as she saw them in the crowd. It was nice to have a night off to do something different for a change. The whole concept of the ball was exciting to her, getting matched up with someone from another house, and she couldn't wait to get to know her date. Jac only hoped he was thinking the same about her.
