Hannah had been genuinely intrigued when she heard about the Social Ball that Professor Dumbledore announced for the students. Apparently, the Headmaster found it a necessity to pair the students up by the sorting hat to attend the ball. It was a strange concept, considering that all of the students should be the ones running around trying to find a date to the ball. Of course, considering that the sorting hat was pairing everyone at the school up, that certainly meant that none of the students would be without a date. That was always a problem that usually proved out to be awkward. In addition, it usually allowed some students to just congregate near the food and talk all night. On the flip side, that didn't mean that the couples would approve of each other at all for the ball. That would be an awkward situation as well, especially if the hatred escalated to any form of violence. Considering the fact that it was by the sorting hat, that must mean that the hat felt that the couples were supposed to be together.
Despite her self-confidence issues, Hannah was a pretty social student there at Hogwarts, so she felt that attending the social ball was going to be a good thing. Perhaps she would meet someone that she never met before? Maybe it might even be a fun night? Who knew what was to be in store at the social ball. After all, she was pretty much tolerant of the students at the castle, aside from the radically extreme students. So, she didn't think that she should have too much to worry about, when it came to question who her date was going to be. Quite honestly, she wasn't going around the castle to find a boy that she liked to go with. While she did like boys, she wasn't trying to find a boy to start dating yet. Therefore, it was probably best where she didn't have to find a boy to go with, since they she would have to make a decision if more than one of her classmates asked her to the ball. But, if no boy asked to go with her, then she would have to go alone or with friends. Certainly, the predetermined dates helped in that matter.
After a while, the couples list was released, which prompted a large crowd of students to congregate by the list to see who they were paired up with. Within the excitement of some of the students, Hannah had to practically push her way through the crowd to see who she was going to be paired with. She was rather astonished when she realized who she was actually going with, Caleb Dunstan. Certainly he wasn't her first choice for a date. It wasn't the fact that he was a Slytherin, although most of the students that she detested were from Slytherin. No, she honestly didn't hear that much about him. Thus, she didn't really have too much of an opinion of him, yet anyway. She just took his presence in stride like those of her fellow students while in her classes.
Once that list was posted, Hannah had to find the right outfit to wear. Considering the fact that this was supposed to be a ball, she had to dress up properly for it. It shouldn't have been hard for her to do so, since she didn't mind doing so, often finding the experience rather enjoyable. Indeed, she didn't have much problems dressing up for the occasion, finding a dress and a pair of heels to be suitable for the event a head of time. She even chose a few accessories that were the color of her date's house to show her respect to the house that he was in. Indeed, it would probably have absolutely no effect on the outcome of what happened at the Social Ball. At the very least, it would show that she was at least willing to be with Caleb for some amount of time at the Social Ball.
When the morning of the Social Ball finally arrived, Hannah was indeed a little nervous. She hoped to get along with Caleb for at least enough of time to at least enjoy the ball that night. The other girls in her dorm room were already trying to style their hair and make up. Hannah was never really all that focused on make-up as it was. Getting up from her bed, she took a shower so she was clean for the ball later. After several minutes, she finished up and dried herself. Settling down on her bed, she gave herself a fresh manicure and pedicure, painting both her fingernails and toenails with light green nail polish in the process. Once the nail polish on all of her nails dried, she pulled her dress on over her body, being careful not to wrinkle the dress in the process. She thought it was a good enough dress for her to wear to the ball.
Sitting down in front of a mirror, Hannah took a brush and a comb to do her hair. She didn't like using magic for something that she was fully capable to do the muggle way. So, applying make-up and styling her hair were always done the muggle way. She rarely screwed up immensely, which always helped. Taking a while to accomplish, she was able to correctly braid her hair in a braid that reached down to her shoulders along with a green barrette to hold the hair in place on top of her head. Looking in the mirror, she took out a tube of light pink lip gloss, applying a little to her lips. She liked to maintain a natural look, and thus didn't like to apply too much make-up. Looking down at the jewelry that she had, she chose a pair of green earrings and put them on her ears. To finish off her outfit, she slid her feet into a pair of high heeled sandals, buckling the strap around her ankle after she was finished. Fully standing up, she smiled to herself in the mirror, thinking that she looked nice.
When she dressed up like that, Hannah was truthfully dressing up for herself. Despite her confidence issues, she maintained a rather positive image of her outward appearance. She honestly thought that she looked good, and thus based her outfits on what she thought she would look nice in. Of course, comfortability was also an added plus to any outfit. Even though she wouldn't openly admit it, she wanted to look nice for Caleb as well. True, she had no idea if he even liked the idea of having her as a date. Yet, she barely had any opinion of him before, which was why it could go either way at the ball. Naturally, she wanted to get along well with him, but that was something that she had to see how he would react to her.
Shaking her head lightly from the reprieve, Hannah turned on her heel to exit her dorm room. By the time that she finished getting ready, there was still enough time to make it to the Great Hall before the Social Ball began. Being in Hufflepuff gave her the advantage of being only one floor below the Great Hall. It was nearly impossible for her to be late, unless she left the room after the fact. Walking through the Hufflepuff Common Room, she greeted the students that she knew that were waiting around for a bit or talking together with their friends. Leaving the sanctuary of the common room, she headed down the hallway that led away from the common room.
Ascending a nearby staircase, Hannah arrived on the ground floor near the entrance hall early. The place was swarming with students already. Friends were getting together, complementing each other on how they looked. Some of the pairings were already meeting in the general vicinity. Sighing lightly to herself, she walked near the doors to the Great Hall. Peering inside, none of the couples had entered the grand hall just yet. Resting back against the wall near the Great Hall entrance, she took a deep breath to let her nerves settle down a little. Perhaps she should have casted a calming spell on herself before coming? It was too late now anyway, and besides, it probably wouldn't work too well now anyway. Letting her hazel eyes look around, she waited for her date to arrive.
