It was almost a week until her sixteenth birthday. To her, that only meant one thing: school was about to start again. She didn't see the need to celebrate getting another year older. Age was just a number. It didn't necessarily measure growth, personality, or who the person is. Just the age of the body. So why celebrate getting older? That much closer to death? Though with all the death eaters in the world, death could be at the door knocking at any moment.
The thoughts only deemed to depress Jasmine even more than usual. Getting older also meant leaving Hogwarts and starting her life. She had no serious connections to build on, no idea what she wanted to do, nor how do go about being on her own. Sure, she was on her own most of the time during school but the basics were provided for survival, even if she had to endure being around crowds of people. Jas knew she wouldn't want to give up her magic just like her dad. It was too much apart of who she was.
Magic was the reason she was here alone today rather than being accompanied with her father. He hated it. He felt that it ruined his family. Maybe it did. But it wasn't easy to ignore that otherworldly energy that certain people are born with. He had hoped against hope that Jasmine would take after her mother and be a muggle. Nope. Magic ran through her veins.
And it was magic that brought her here today. She needed new school supplies. Her school robes were too small after years of use and her potions supplies ran dry. Books needed to be bought and small trinkets for new classes. Quills, parchments... the list went on. First stop would obviously be Gringotts to tap into the wizarding money her father studiously ignored but supplied to none the less. But that trip could wait until after she had something to eat.
Jasmine had ordered a simple soup and was pushing the contents around her bowl idly. It wasn't amazing but it did fill her up. Nothing like the food at school, which she sorely missed. Muggle food just wasn't the same either. Sighing, she took a sip of her pumpkin juice and leaned back in her seat. Surveying the rest of the Leaky Cauldron, she tried to pinpoint those she knew but there were few. And even fewer she would approach for conversation. Her walls were built high. But no matter how much she wanted to stay hidden, she couldn't help but admit that she was lonely...
