The Revolution Has Begun
"There's no need to call me sir Professor."
FULL NAME: Jake Austin Lawrence NICKNAMES: He mostly just goes by Jake, but his Mum does call him Jakey from time to time. Then there are those who just call him by his last name, Lawrence. His best friend calls him Mister Sexy, but that’s something he’d rather not have to be called, regardless of how flattering it is. Because it just makes him feel weird. AGE:17 BIRTHDAY: April 17th, 1978 SEXUALIY:heterosexual BLOODLINE:halfblood HOUSE: Gryffindor YEAR: Seventh JOB: n/a SIDE: Order supporter SPECIES/SPECIAL ABILITIES: He’s got nothing special going on and he’s quite happy about that. His patronus is a black bear. CANON: No
"You don't know what I'm capable of, you don't know what I've done!"
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Jake doesn’t really see himself as being anything special. He’s got a mop of brown hair that he tries to make look presentable, but he mostly doesn’t really care, his hair does what it wants. He knows he isn’t ugly by any means, but he also doesn’t think that’s anything special going on in the face area. He has a kind, open face. His eyes are as brown as his hair, and his skin is light. His features are generally on the larger size, like his nose, which curls down into a slight hook. His mouth is wide, and his lips thick, but not in an overly obvious way. What’s always obvious to him is how chapped they can get. He’s taken to always carrying around some chapstick because it’s more often a problem than not. Thankfully none of that affects his smile, which is very bright and makes everyone usually feel at ease.
His build is pretty average as well, though he isn’t a weakling, he’s a lot stronger than he looks. He’s on the slim side with long limbs that took a while to grow into. Because he is so seemingly thin, you don’t notice the dense muscles in his arms and legs at first glance. The muscles are there, though, built up from the intense amounts of running and swimming that he does on a regular basis. He’s glad they aren’t blatant though, because he’s never been a fan of larger than life, body builder arms.
His sense of style is pretty simple. He likes to keep things clean cut and not overly loud in the color department. He always wants to look put together, even if he’s just wearing a t-shirt and jeans. It’s always a nice, crisp shirt and well fitted jeans. He doesn’t consider himself to be fashionable in any sense, but he does generally care about how he looks, and he knows what he likes.
MOST LIKED FEATURE: As strange as it sounds, he’s actually rather fond of his hands. He likes his long fingers, and how they are just so useful. They can do anything. And it helps that he’s ambidextrous, so that’s probably a good reason too.
MOST HATED FEATURE: His hair because it always seems to do what it wants. Sure, he can put it together nicely, but an hour goes by and it already feels like a mess.
HERITAGE: English ETHNICITY: Caucasian
"The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure."
GENERAL PERSONALITY:
athletic: Jake may not be on the quidditch team, but he’s still a very athletic person. He spends a lot of his extra time either going for a run or swimming in the lake. He likes the time spent with just himself and nature. It pumps him up, makes him feel good, and keeps him in shape. It’s the only real stress reliever that he knows. It’s a pity that he’s never been able to really get the grasp of flying, because the game always looks like a lot of fun.
practical/logical: He looks at life through a very practical lense. He’s not going to do something just because everyone else is if he can see that it’s just plainly a really dumb thing to do. Things just generally make sense to him, things that might be more complicated to others are clear. He’s always been the friend that everyone goes to for advice, knowing that he’ll probably have something helpful to say.
protective: It’s in Jake’s nature to be protective of most anyone he feels needs protecting. As a seventh year he feels like it’s his responsibility even more so to look out for all the younger kids. He doesn’t go completely out of his way to do so, but he’s always got his eyes open in case a situation arises. You can imagine that if he’s so protective over those he doesn’t know so well, he must be even more protective of the people he actually cares about. You’d be correct with that assumption. Jake’s been known to throw a punch or two when he feels like a friend has been attacked in some way. He sticks up for people because it’s the right thing to do, and watching someone he cares about be hurt is about the worst possible experience for him. Of course, there is such a thing as too protective, and he’s definitely been guilty of that plenty of times.
focused: Once he starts something, or sets out to do something, he’s going to do it. He doesn’t like leaving things unfinished or open ended, and so he doesn’t. He focuses completely on whichever task he’s set out to do, and doesn’t come up for air until he’s achieved it. Which can lead to over working, and a large amount of stress, but it’s simply the way he’s wired. Whatever he’s focused on at the moment is the most important thing, and that can be a person too, not just his Charms essay.
passionate: When Jake cares about something, he cares about it with all of himself. If he’s going to spend time on something, he’s going to put all of himself into it. He can talk at long lengths about how great his run was, or how gorgeous a piece of photography is. He’ll gush over the shot used in the photo and get lost in his love for it in that instant. If you’re not actually interested in what he’s saying you might end up getting bored, but that’s no big deal to him. He gets that not everyone is going to love something as much as he does.
loyal: Jake doesn’t see the point in being a person’s friend if all you’re going to do is back out of it when things get hard. If he’s your friend, he’s in it for as long as you’ll take him. He doesn’t like to break a commitment, and he takes friendship seriously.
perfectionist: Homework isn’t actually completed until Jake has read through it at least twice to check that there are no mistakes. He’ll stand in front of the mirror for a good ten minutes trying to get his hair to stay put even though he knows it’s just going to fall apart when he walks through the door. He’ll sit by the lake for however long it takes to get that perfect shot, because he doesn’t like the idea of wasting film on less that perfect pictures. Doing a job right, and doing it very, very well are paramount to him, even if it adds that much more stress to his load.
good humored: Jake can find the silliness in the most serious situation, and humor in a joke that he’s heard about a thousand times. He likes to have a good laugh, it’s good for him and eases him up if he’s feeling stressed. He’d never be called the class clown, but he has been known to drive a joke or two into the ground. He really can’t help it.
HOBBIES: -reading -writing -photography -jogging -swimming
DISLIKES: -being the center of attention -having a huge load of homework -having nothing to do -rain -wasting things -sleeping in -spicy food -stress
LIKES: -being productive -a good work out -good music -his friends -the ocean -pancakes -finishing homework early -the library -a good conversation -when girls smile -a cozy fire -a solid joke, knock-knock’s are always a favorite
FEARS: -that success just isn’t in the cards for him -The people he cares about being hurt. SECRETS: -That half the time he’s a stress case even if he doesn’t let it show. -He’s more than a little in love with his best friend.
"I enjoyed the meetings, too. It was like having friends."
GENERAL HISTORY: Jake Austin Lawrence was born on April 17th, 1978 in a Muggle hospital in the seaside city of Brighton. His mother may have been a witch, but she’d known that her husband would be much more comfortable in a magic free zone. He didn’t have any problem with magic of course, he simply took a long while to get used to the idea. He thankfully had gotten very used to it by the time that Jake started showing signs of magic, or else he may have had a heart attack at the sight of Jake floating his favorite book (The Little Prince) in the air.
It was around that time that Jake’s mother had another child, by the name of David. The moment he was born Jake was excited. He always wanted to spend time with his little brother. Whether he be teasing him or teaching him the proper way to play with little toy cars, they always were together. This could only last so long, of course. When he finally left for Hogwarts at eleven, he wasn’t as excited as he wanted to be. He hated that he was leaving his best friend, his little brother, all alone. And truthfully, he didn’t know what to do without him by him side.
The train ride was a lonely one. He’d ended up sidled up with some kids that he wasn’t that fond of. They said a lot of mean things about Muggles, and when Jake had tried to get a word in they’d only sneered and called him a mudblood lover. The shock of the words pushed him into an awkward silence that lasted the length of the train ride, and Jake couldn’t have been more relieved when they had finally reached their destination.
It was only when he’d been sorted and was sitting at Gryffindor table that he started to feel comfortable. He was where he was supposed to be, and everyone around him was a lot nicer than the kids he’d been with on the train. In fact, he took an instant liking to the girl that had been sorted into Gryffindor right after him: Piper Lupin. He didn’t know it, but that giddy moment shared together in the Great Hall was the beginning of a very beautiful, and very very complicated, friendship.
The following years flew by in a whirlwind of essays, swims in the lake, friendships being made, and a load of other things. Jake loved school, he thrived on learning, on perfecting the person that he was becoming with each day. He was eager to learn and eager to make the best of all the time that he had there. He had a good group of friends, but none better than Piper. He’d stuck with her throughout all of her...changes, and she’d always stuck by him. By the beginning of his seventh year it was very safe to say that he’d fallen completely in love with her. Which she obviously didn’t know. Thankfully he’d have a lot to distract himself with this year, being that he had been appointed Head Boy. It was an honor that he could barely believe, but he knew that after all of his work he deserved it. The question is, will he be able to deal with the mounting stress of school, head boy duties, his future, and being rather lovesick? Only time would tell.
