The Revolution Has Begun
"There's no need to call me sir Professor."
FULL NAME: Bellatrix Elladora Lestrange NICKNAMES: Bella - only by those who are close to her. Trixy - very rarely used and even more rarely is it tolerated. Bells - use only when attempting to provoke her wrath. AGE: 43 years of age BIRTHDAY: April 13th, 1951 SEXUALIY: Heterosexual BLOODLINE: Pure as pure can be. HOUSE: Formerly in Slytherin YEAR: N/A JOB: Death Eating SIDE: Death Eater SPECIES/SPECIAL ABILITIES: Legilimency, Occlumency, Wordless and a lot of wandless magic CANON: Yes
"You don't know what I'm capable of, you don't know what I've done!"
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Bella's eyes are dark, dark like her soul and cold like ice. A gaze from her eyes could send shivers down the spine of a lion. Some may say they feel naked when she looks at them, as though she can see into their mind. Well she can't unless she is using Legilimens which she ain't too keen on unless it's truly necessary. Her eyebrows are shaped in a sharp curve and her eyes lashes are long without the aid of masacra or spells; something she is quite proud of.
She is 5 foot 3 inches tall and weighs in at around 117lbs. There's no time for comfort eating when you're out torturing mudbloods and she has an inherited naturally fast metabolism.
Her hair is long and dark brown with curls that cascade down her back. Her hair has a lustrous and healthy look and is something she is very proud of. Her hair is usually allowed to flow freely although underneath the Death Eater cloak it must be tamed to some degree, otherwise it is just plain wild, in a way reflecting her personality.
Bellatrix has the Black family's distinct good looks; heavy-lidded eyes, strong jawline and thin-lipped. Probably one of the only Death Eaters you will look at and not find repulsive; well, based on her beauty not her deeds. If you happen to know her *ahem* intimately, then you might have become acquainted with the beauty spot on her left hip. Her dark mark on her left forearm is a feature that she is very fond of. Her posture and poise is that of aristocracy and she is more often than not, seen with her nose stuck in the air arrogantly. This is more of a subconscious habit she has had since childhood. MOST LIKED FEATURE: Her most like natural feature would be her figure. Bellatrix has a petite frame and is quite slim although this doesn't mean she is delicate. No, her bones may not be big, but they are strong and sturdy - she isn't about to break into pieces the second she falls over. Bellatrix has just the right amount of curves where it's wanted and good posture from being disciplined at a young age to sit and stand like royalty. Her most liked feature that she was not born with would be her dark mark. She is very proud of it and sees it as the Dark Lord's way of claiming her as his - she likes the feeling of belonging to him. MOST HATED FEATURE: Her height. Bella is not exceptionally tall. She stands at about 5'3" and loathes having to look up at people. She would like to have been a lot taller so that she could physically look down on people she feels superior to but her large personality and feistiness seem to make up for her lacking in stature. HERITAGE: English, although if traced back far enough Italian relatives can be discovered. ETHNICITY: Caucasian
"The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure."
GENERAL PERSONALITY: Bellatrix. Where to begin? I guess I shall start with her redeeming factors... Let's see... She is a very caring sister if you don't happen to be Andromeda, she prides herself on being fiercely loyal if you are one of these people: the Dark Lord, Narcissa, or a non blood-traitor Black family member. She could also be described as deadly honest, unless she is lying to get something out of you. Wait, that was a bad thing wasn't it? Well, this is rather difficult so I may as well outline her more interesting aspects to put it nicely.
Bellatrix is very proud of her family ancestry, her power, her untainted pure blood and her allegiances with the dark arts community and she is very willing to boast about them, even if they are not considered 'good' things. She is quite an obsessive creature and she mainly obsesses in the dark arts, revenge, black magic and the Dark Lord. Her temper is fiery and quick to flare, so any insults and she'll have a hex soaring towards you in seconds - almost like a reflex. Either that or you're a muggle-born, half-blood or enemy and she was bored. But seriously, she has a deadly temper that can make the bravest of people tremble. If you cross her, don’t think you will escape without feeling the wrath of her fury and most likely a couple cruciatus curses for good measure!
Bellatrix also has an envious streak, for example she is jealous of other Death Eaters that receive praise from the Dark Lord and will resent them for it. If you have something she wants she will hate you for it and won’t even try hiding it from you. Once you make an enemy of Bella, you’ll probably never become anything else because she can hold a grudge for a very long time and will always seek revenge, no matter what it is for.
Some might say it is due to close inter-family marriages over the centuries, some might say it was the pureblood supremacy she was exposed to from an early age, but in the end the outcome is the same; Bellatrix Black is vindictive, twisted and unable to feel guilt or remorse. She loves to taunt, tease and toy with her victims before finally killing them because death on it's own is too easy. Sadistic and confident, she will have you hating her before even speaking to her. That is unless you like that kind of thing. She is prone to paranoia and has a lot of personal insecurities that make her quite jumpy and volatile and she thinks nothing of teasing people whether she likes them or not and can be very condescending at times; for example she still treats her youngest sister like a child.
A lot of her current personality traits might have their origins in her childhood although it depends whether you believe in nature or nurture - perhaps she was just born bad. However, growing up with Andromeda was big problem for Bella. She seemed to have taken the change from an only child to big sister particularly badly. It seemed that having a sister so close in age (and it was quickly becoming apparent, appearance too) was encroaching upon Bella's place in the family; Bellatrix showed a possessive, hostile and cruel nature, not to mention she was paranoid that the girl would try to replace her as most loved and that she may be preferred to Bellatrix. The final addtion of Narcissa was much less traumatic for Bella, the only change in her was perhaps a stronger paranoia. She felt that Andromeda would try and take over role as leader and that was not acceptable in Bella's mind. She was the eldest and so it would be her who decided what they did, where they went and what they played when it wasn't their parents making the decisions.
A little while later, when Sirius came to Hogwarts, Bellatrix had another twist of character. Sure, she had been gradually getting more bitter and resentful as she grew older but Sirius getting sorted into Gryffindor of all houses, caused Bellatrix to become even more foul tempered, violent, bullyish and cruel. She even had a sadistic streak slowly being nurtured over the years like a poisonous weed. This newest event had changed things yet again for Bella, her prejudices and hateful personailty blossoming like the funeral flower adornment she had become. Her parents weren't disappointed by her, sure they disapproved of her less than lady-like ways but she had the Black family morals for sure and that was the priority.
Despite being a Death Eater and happily torturing people without a thought, Bella was still raised to be a high society lady and occasionally this side of her exposes itself, not often, but being that it was ingrained in her from a very young age she can’t really shake it completely. Bella knows how to blackmail and manipulate but prefers to resort to brute force since she gets more of a kick out of it and it’s much more fun anyway, isn’t it? Of course it is! Bellatrix has no problems killing and would murder her middle sister just to rid her of the connection and look purer in Voldemort's eyes.
HOBBIES: - Torturing mudbloods, blood-traitors and anyone else who might deserve it in her opinion. - Dueling and winning. - Serving the Dark Lord. - Teasing people. DISLIKES:-Gryffindors -Polyjuice potion - sure she'll use it but it tatses foul and she likes being herself not other people. -Socializing with high society; it can be so pointless, boring and insufferable. -People in the Order because they are fighting a war against her Voldemort pureblood supremecy. -Dumbledore because people say he is a better wizard that the Dark Lord which is obviously not true. -Sirius Black as he was a disgusting blood traitor and Bella thinks he makes her look bad in front of the Dark Lord and the other Death Eaters because they are related. -Nymphadora because she is the daughter of her blood-traitor sister and a blight on the Black family name. Her marriage and procreation with Lupin only deepened the loathing. -Blood-traitors -Enemies of the Dark Lord -House Elves and other magical creatures. House Elves especially because they are always ass-kissing and seeking a way to unemploy themselves for some reason. Most other magical creatures seem to avoid her or try to attack her much to her surprise but she quickly decided she didn't want them to like her and now mistreats them for amusement. How nice. -Losing anything is just embarrassing. -Allowing people to survive because it's plain messy. -Insults about self or family or Dark Lord -Shoes with laces because they always come undone at the most inconvenient times. -Children because they are loud, obnoxious and disgusting. Bella can't understand or tolerate them in the slightest. They also kind of creep her out with their clingyness. Her own children are a slight exception to this although she never really adapted fully to motherhood. -Traitors of the Dark Lord for obvious personal reasons. -Azkaban; well no one really wants to go to Azkaban, do they? - Rodolphus for the most part although there are times when he is tolerable. - Andromeda; like Sirius she strayed from the family path of pureblood beliefs, plus she looks a little too much like Bella. -Mudbloods because they are infinitely inferior in everyway in her opinion. -Disloyal Death Eaters because it is a commitment for life and a great honor! LIKES: -Dark Arts and she also happens to be more than talented when it comes to them. -The Dark Lord because he's dreamy clever. That was meant to say clever. -Death Eaters that aren't competition but are loyal to the Dark Lord -Slytherins because she feels they are like her very extended family since she used to be one herself. -Curses, mainly the cruciatus curse -Fizzing Whizbees -Drooble's best blowing gum - something she has liked since her childhood. -Winning, at anything and everything -Being begged for mercy -Her sister, Narcissa -Her wand, it serves her well -Knockturn Alley and all it's interesting people and shops, sometimes Diagon Alley is just a little bit too tame or just plain crowded. FEARS: - Growing old and becoming useless to the Dark Lord. - Losing her good looks. - The Dark Lord falling from power. - Being seen as a failure and not being the Dark Lord's favorite. SECRETS: - Bella has a soft spot for... chocolate cake. - Bella knows how to tango. - Fabien is not in fact, Rodolphus' son but the only son of the Dark Lord. - Thus, Bella has indulged in bedroom activities with the Darkest Wizard of the age and loves him. - She had a long affair with her brother-in-law, Rabastan, that continued for years and she has never told Rodolphus, nor felt regret.
"I enjoyed the meetings, too. It was like having friends."
GENERAL HISTORY: Bellatrix was raised to believe that pureblood wizards and witches were far superior to muggle-born and half-blood wizards. Being a member of The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, she was lead to believe that she was practically wizarding royalty. At Hogwarts she was a Slytherin as was custom for her family and found herself to be very talented in the Dark Arts.
As a young child, she took great pleasure in setting small insects on fire and catching stray cats that passed her way so that she could 'experiment' on them. Namely, she would try casting spells and using magic on them without a wand. Usually she would just manage to make their whiskers disappear but from time to time (usually when they scratched her and made her angry) she would succeed in making one or more of its limbs vanish and once even blinded one after it tried to scratch her. It was almost a way for her to vent the vast amount of fury and frustration she had pent up inside as well as a form of entertainment.
Her sister Andromeda she saw as competition. They were close in age and appearance which made Bellatrix feel she had to be better than her in every way. This lead to her playing various pranks on her sister and doing her best to make her unhappy. Narcissa was young enough not to be a threat to Bella's ego, so as the eldest she felt it her duty to take her under her wing although Andromeda seemed to have beaten Bella there, only worsening the one-sided vendetta.
Bella's seven years at Hogwarts were spent socializing with Slytherins, learning the Dark Arts from the pages of restricted book and mercilessly teasing and bullying students from the other 'inferior' houses. As soon as her middle sister followed her into Hogwarts, she began distancing herself from her. It was quickly becoming apparent that Andromeda was not quite as much of a Slytherin as the rest of her family, Sirius exlcuded. As her sisters one by one joined her at Hogwarts, she felt it her duty to keep them under her thumb and not let them do anything Cygnus and Dreulla wouldn't be pleased with. Unfortunately, through the grapevine Bellatrix heard horrifying stories about her sister sneaking out to meet a mudblood. She refused to believe it although she did keep a closer eye on her after that.
Shortly after Hogwarts, she married Rodolphus Lestrange, a wizard from a respectable pureblood family. Bellatrix and Rodolphus had an arranged marriage as all the Black sisters were intended to. Bellatrix knew the boy from school as they were in the same house and the same year and had believed herself to be in love with him although it was mere infatuation and novelty - she owned him. The thought of taking him as a husband wasn't a big deal to her, she would make an appropriate marriage and please her parents but she hadn't considered the fact that she would have to put up with him in everyday life; his habits, his company, his bed.
The marriage was very surreal and went very slowly in Bella's memory. It was a big wedding being that she was the first Black daughter to be married and Rodolphus was the eldest Lestrange son. Bellatrix was in a daze that day, her mother and sisters had helped to put her in her wedding dress and do her hair and her father had given away. Bella's movements and speech were all mechanical and forced, she hadn't given much thought to the day but now it had arrived, it was only just sinking in. She may be an extremely talented witch in the dark arts but no magic could have prepared her for a wedding, her own wedding. It was perhaps at her wedding that she came to realize that she didn't in fact, love Rodolphus Lestrange.
Married life was not what Bellatrix had expected. It wasn't as though she had to cook, clean and take care of children but she still didn't like it. Rodolphus was like a prison guard to her, he wanted her to be loyal to him and he wanted her to be the pretty little pureblood trophy wife! Infuriated by this, Bella became very cold, moody, bored, short-tempered and easily irritated living with Rodolphus and wanted to get out of the house and far away from him. This led her to committing adultery with his brother - the fact that Rabastan was Rod's brother made it even more enticing. Bella enjoyed the thrill of doing something so forbidden. It was around this time, that an opportunity soon arose. About four months into their marriage, the married couple decided to become Death Eaters and join Voldemort's cause. Once initiated into the group, Bellatrix distanced herself from her husband and found in herself a great desire to please her new master. To her, he was the most powerful wizard she had ever met, a man of excellent values and morals and he commanded the whole group with such skill and mastery that it took her breath away. Bellatrix found herself longing to be praised and favored by him, striving to stand out from the others and prove that being a woman didn't make her weaker than the other Death Eaters.
Bellatrix's ruthless power and brutality did catch the eye of the Dark Lord, he saw her eagerness and loyalty to be invaluable qualities and made the decision that he would give her one to one tutoring in Dark Arts, Legilimency and Occlumency. Bellatrix felt incredibly honored to be taught by one whom she revered and respected so much but these one on one sessions sparked a weakness for Bella, she developed feelings for the Dark Lord. She didn't notice it at first but when she did, she htad trouble accepting it fully because true love was alien to her and was something that he mocked and called a weakness. While doing the Dark Lord's bidding, she was experiencing an inner battle with herself over her unwanted attraction to her master. Finally she broke and gave in to the emotion but it quickly worsened into something of an obsession.
During this time her relationship with Rodolphus began to deteriorate into begrudging tolerance. Whether he was aware of her extreme obsession with the Dark Lord was a mystery to Bella although he gradually began to expect her to be less and less of the idealistic wife he had imagined. They barely spoke to each other and what there was of conversation between them was reasonably civil. Each resenting the other for various reasons.
It was only a year or so later that Andromeda Black married a muggle-born wizard, Bellatrix along with the rest of the Blacks cut-off all contact with Andromeda. Since then, Bella has found the striking similarities in appearance with her banished sister a curse, embarrassment and source of even more hatred towards her. She hates her sister to be mentioned and is disgusted that she is so closely related to such a person. Sirius was bad enough but he was a cousin, not her own sister! She won't admit it but she strongly regrets not being tougher on her sister when she heard the rumors. Bella became much closer to her youngest sister since losing her middle sister.
Bella continued to hone her skills and serve the Dark Lord, succeeding in becoming his most trusted servant. It was after her training was completed, that he obliged her lust for him and in doing so, sealed her devotion for life. He gave her a taste of something she had been desiring for so long and she wanted more, constantly wishing for more. After all, she could serve him like the vast majority of Death Eaters could not. A matter of weeks after Bella's trip to cloud nine, she discovered she was expecting her first child. Still, she did not feel guilty for wandering from the marital bed, rather she made sure to lure her husband to bed so that he would not suspect the parentage of the child she was carrying.
Bella did not tell the Dark Lord that the child she was carrying was his, nor did he ask. She was delerious with pride to be the mother of his only child but at the same time she feared he may see the child as a possible rival and may wish to destroy it and she could not let it happen. The child was born and it made Bella almost physically ill to have Rodolphus near him; he was her little prince, her momento of the night she had spent with the Dark Lord to remind her it had not been a vivid fantasy. She thought him perfect and at first found it extremely difficult to resist telling the Dark Lord that she had bore him an heir. As the years passed, it got easier and easier to keep his parentage a secret to herself.
Two years later and the Dark Lord fell. Bellatrix was distraught to say the least. She was determined to find her master, determined to restore him to full power no matter what it took but there was still the matter of little Fabien. He was all she had left of him, all she had left of her love. She continued her avid searching to find her master but there was a moment of weakness one night when she and Rodolphus were at home. Bella was heartbroken and longing for her master to return; beside herself with agitation and frustration. Roddy comforted her and for a while, she could believe he was the Dark Lord, back to claim her as his and to meet his son. Her delusions were a little too vivid and after flirting Rodolphus into bed with thoughts of the Dark Lord on her mind, she conceived again.
Her second child was a girl and by now Bella had lost interest in most things other than obsessively searching for the Dark Lord and caring for her three year old. She failed to bond with Laura which wasn't aided by the fact that she was a girl and Bella had a preference for boys. Or rather, her one son. It was quite obvious that Bella treated her two children very differently.
Three years later and Bella was not much improved, if anything, she had gotten worse. She believed that the Dark Lord was alive somewhere waiting for her but she was failing to find him and he would be disappointed in her when he returned. The thought tormented her to the point where she became restless, more irritable and volatile than ever and very aloof. It didn't help that they had been practically homeless since the Dark Lord had fallen and Bella was accustomed to finery and riches, poverty was shameful and something she had never known. Bella became very distanced from everyone, including her eldest and devoted all her efforts to finding her master but to no avail. Her children had meanwhile spent much of the time with their aunt and uncle where they had at least a roof over their heads and food in front of them.
Around that time Bellatrix was worse for wear and not dealing at all with the loss of the Dark Lord and spent much of her time in a daze, only breaking from it to eat and sleep, not that she really did much of those. She was so disconnected from reality that it was not difficult for Rodolphus to coax her into bed, the result of which was a third child. Yet again, Bella did not bond with her child and instead devoted her time to wandering the country in search of her master, going away for days - sometimes weeks - at a time and looking considerably worse for ware.
This continued for some time until 1990, when she went missing altogether. Bella had ventured abroad to find the Dark Lord and had sworn not to return to England until she had found him. She had become desperate and vacant, only recognizing one true purpose which was to find him. Bella finally returned in the summer of 1994, when the news reached her that the Dark Mark had been conjured at the Quidditch World Cup, her hope was renewed. With the life slowly returning to her, she hastened back to England and reuinited with her family. As her own mark grew more vivid, so did her personality. She still looked pale, imatiated and haggard but her health was restored along with her personality and slowly her appearance returned to what it once was.
When he finally summoned his Death Eaters to his side, she was overjoyed to be in his presence once again and her recovery was almost immediate, though her mind was irreversibly damaged somewhat from the mental anguish and torment she had subjected herself to. Bellatrix had returned from the oblivion of her mind, even more violent, sadistic and blood-thirsty than before. This time she has a hunger for revenge and pure violent, gruesome torture.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE: This is a journal extract from another site I was on where I played Bellatrix - that being why it's in first person.
"Today I watched a man die. I watched that light fade from his dim orbs and his last breath escape his lungs. It was exhilerating. You might think a lifetime of murder, torture and merciless destruction might get old after a while but it doesn't. Every life that I watch flicker out in front of me, because of me, brings me a rush of adrenaline. I adore it. They say once you taste blood you can't get enough of it. Or something to that effect. Well it's true. I was in my late teens when I took the Dark Mark and took my first life soon after. It's one of the best feelings you can ever experience; having that power and control over a person, deciding whether they will live to see the next issue of the Daily Prophet. It is like an addiction with no cure but I am all too happy to succumb to it.
Everytime I torture someone, it is that sweet sweet look of desperation, begging, pleading that thrills me into sending another wave of curses at them; they think that they look pitiful enough to evoke some sort of empathy from me? HA! I laugh in their faces, the filthy scum! It is the brave ones who die slowest, the rude ones who die fastest and the useless ones who rest somewhere in the middle as they are somewhat tedious after a while. Of course, it also depends on my current mood. If I'm feeling generous then I might just end it ever so slightly sooner but chances are I'm pretty angry which means you'll suffer until I'm satisfied and my spirits are sufficiently lifted. I live for that rush of ecstasy when I watch them twist, squirm and scream from the effects of my magic. I breath in their fear and it excites me, their sweat... not so much but it's ever so slightly encouraging.
That glorious scent of death that radiates from their mangled corpse is like the scent of triumph to me; it congratulates me, rewards me enough to satiate the desire for my master's praise. Yes, my master gives his praise only to those who have earned it and so I strive for it. I demand it, I live to achieve it. It is my sole purpose. Every look is an encouragement, every word uttered in my direction is a deadly incentive and every word of ounce of approval is like beautiful melody to my ears. Those long years in Azkaban deprived me of this vital sustenance for I know that had I been free I could have found him sooner, I could have given my much worthier blood, my attentions and he would see how devoted, faithful and loyal I am. How I stand above all others in my servitude to him. I have only failed him on one occasion and I refuse to allow a repeat of that to occur. No human, animal or creature will stand in my way for I shall have what I want no matter what or who I have to blast into oblivion to achieve it. I will win his most highest esteem and together we shall rule the new wizarding world; purge it of muggles, mudbloods and create the perfect world where there are only pureblooded wizards and witches."
"Reading between the lines, I’d say she thinks you’re a bit conceited, mate."
