The day was gray, dark, and perhaps a shade dismal. It wasn't the ideal day to be out and about, which was one of the reasons that the streets of Diagon Alley weren't all that active. Honestly, if Sirius had had much of a choice, he probably would have preferred to be doing something else. Searching a house, or interrogating a known dark wizard. You know, something exciting and not out in the depressing climate. But here he was, walking briskly (but casually) through Diagon Alley, on his way to what was more than likely going to be a very boring mission.
He felt a raindrop hit his cheek, and he looked up, noticing the clouds rolling in. The sky was dark, and the fog that Sirius knew was caused by the dementers, was hanging particularly low that day. It was as if they were flirting with the idea of floating down and stealing a soul or two. Sirius didn't like it one bit. He threw up the hood of his cloak then, and let it hang low over his face. No one needed to be noticing him right now, that was for sure.
The mission today was fairly simple. All that needed to be done was really some surveillance. Knockturn Alley was known to be a hot bed for the seedy individuals of their local society, which made it one of the more obvious spots to check in on. There had also been some rumors going through the grapevine that something might be going down today, and the extra presence of the dementers didn't make Sirius want to discount the rumor too quickly. Of course, this also greatly felt like a bit of busy work, a simple step up above paperwork. It was more than likely nothing was actually going to happen, or that they'd only pick up a small guy at the bottom of the very long list of wanted. Regardless, this was the job, and a quick check into Knockturn Alley was always at least a bit important to do.
Thankfully Sirius wouldn't be left on his own to simply get bored. The Chief Auror had paired him up with his old friend Kadey Chahandra. He'd known her since his days at Hogwarts, where she'd been a year under him. They'd fostered a wonderful friendship through the years, and so he knew that there were few people he'd rather be paired with on what was more than likely going to be an uneventful mission.
Sirius took a turn and walked right into the threshold of Knockturn Alley. He spotted Kadey not too far away, leaning against the wall with her own hood up. That look was especially common in these parts, especially on a day like this. He kept his head down and stuffed his hands in his pockets, hand clasped tightly around his wand on the off chance that something went immediately wrong, and then sauntered over to the shadow wrapped Kadey.
"What was the first prank you attempted to pull on James and I?" Sirius whispered fiercely once he'd gotten into Kadey's space. It was more than likely that he was speaking to the true blue Kadey Chahandra, but when joining up on the job, in a place like this, in times like these, well, Sirius had learned that sometimes playing it a bit cautious was a good thing. He gripped tightly onto his wand, but didn't go as far as drawing it. There was no need to draw attention to themselves unless they had no other choice. His eyes roved over her clear, familiar face as he waited for the answer, knowing that if it was anything other than what he expected, things were about to get very interesting.
