Days like today, where none of the classes are engaging, and none of the people are either. What’s never a good combination is when he has History of Magic on a day like that, because it’s clear that he won’t be soaking up any important dates or caring enough to take down notes. Days where he is just completely over it all are never a good day for one of his least favorite classes. But he doesn’t make the schedule so there isn’t really much he can do about it.
Except of course, there is.
Caleb makes the decision to skip his class when he’s about three steps away from the open door. Instead of walking in, he simply saunters by without even a single glance inside. He continued down the hall, passing by his mostly oblivious classmates. It was then that he found some stairs and took himself up to the next floor, deciding that it would be wise to get out of sight before Filch or some irritating prefect got in his way. He needed some one on one time, a break, some time to simply not have to deal with anyone. Frankly, he needed a smoke.
He took each step of the stairs and stopped at the second floor. He walked past some stragglers late for whatever class they happened to be headed for, hurrying so that they wouldn‘t get themselves a detention. If it wasn’t clear, Caleb didn’t really care much about that possibility for himself. The boy’s lavatory wasn’t very far away, and so he slipped in. There were only a pair of seventh year Gryffindors in there, washing at the nearby sinks. Caleb held himself back as they chattered together about something trivial before pushing past him and out the door. He walked further into the bathroom and shrugged out of his robe, leaving himself in simply his school shirt, tie (which he loosened, but only slightly) and slacks. He let it hang from a bit of stone that stuck unevenly out of the wall, keeping it just slightly off the floor. It was only then that he walked casually along the stalls, kicking open a couple, making sure that he was alone. Once he was satisfied, he leaned against the counter at the far wall by the window, and took out his pack of cigarettes.
A good smoke was exactly what he needed right now, and it would surely pass the time by easily. Caleb slipped out a single cigarette and held it to his lips. Touching the tip of his wand to its end, he whispered, “Incendio.” The cigarette glowed softly and the heavy smell of tobacco suddenly consumed him. He tucked his wand back into his pocket and took a deep breath, feeling the slight burn of the smoke in his lungs. It was a good feeling to him, something he’d been craving all day long without actually noticing it. He took another drag from his cigarette and tilted his head back against the wall, his eyes turned towards the window. He brought up his hand and pushed it open slightly, just enough to let the discarded smoke out. He blew a long stream out the window and just stared at it as it drifted out, completely zoning in on each curl as it traveled away from him.

Usually he was on top of things – homework completed, alarm set, food in belly, the whole works – and right on time for each of his classes, but of course, there were occasions where something went wrong. This morning it had just so happened that they had been serving some of his absolute favorite foods for breakfast, and Kalin just couldn’t help himself, couldn’t resist sitting there for an hour, consuming everything he possibly could until the sides of his stomach were stretched to their breaking point, completely stuffed. Kalin soon found himself still sitting there when he had only five minutes left to get to class, and that just wasn’t good.
It was more of a waddle that Kalin pushed himself into than a full out run, his stomach contents weighing him down rather heavily. Luckily, he wasn’t much of a food lightweight, so he didn’t feel sick in the slightest, merely ten pounds heavier than usual. He rushed out of the hall hurriedly and up the nearest flight of stairs he could find. For a moment he forgot where he was headed, but quickly picked up his train of thought as he headed up to the second floor. He was about to hurry past the boy’s bathroom when a funny smell stopped him in his tracks, giving him pause and making him turn slowly towards the door. He thought he recognized the smell, but he had no idea why it would be coming from a bathroom of all places, or even be anywhere inside the school at all. It certainly wasn’t a smell that professors wanted to be wafting through the halls.
Even though his class was due to start in just a couple minutes, Kalin decided that this investigation might be more important. He was a prefect, after all – he had to help enforce the rules, and if rules were being broken here, well… Kalin would have no other choice, would he? He stepped forward and slowly pushed the door to the boy’s bathroom open, his nose immediately wrinkling as a cloud of smoke greeted his face. With his face scrunched up into a grimace, Kalin stepped into the bathroom, intent on finding the source of this unpleasant smell.
He found the culprit leaning against a wall at the opposite end of the bathroom, staring out a window and obviously enjoying himself as he was immersed in the disgusting cloud of smoke. Narrowing his eyes, Kalin let the door close behind him, although that was probably a bad idea, since now here he was, closed in with all this toxic smoke. Still, he was more distracted by the fact that this arrogant student would dare do such a thing in a public school bathroom, or really, do such a thing at all. Surely it was no secret that the nasty cigarettes were a serious health hazard, or perhaps this guy had missed out on the memo.
“Excuse me,” Kalin announced himself loudly, even though it was this boy who should be asking to be excused at this point. “You know you can’t do that in here. Or anywhere, for that matter.” This boy hardly looked old enough to be allowed to buy those things, so now Kalin was just wondering how he’d gotten his hands on them. But mostly he wondered how the boy would react to Kalin’s interception. Kalin just hoped he didn’t cause any trouble. He was already missing class, which definitely put him in a bad mood – resistance would just make it worse.

REPORTS OF LOVERS' TRYST W E R E N E I T H E R C L E A R N O R D E S C R I P T- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -[/sup] Caleb had been so immersed in watching the smoke float out the window that he hadn’t noticed the sound of the door creaking open. Though it wasn’t as if the sound would have changed anything, he still would have carried on carelessly smoking out the window, regardless of who had entered the room. He did however hear the sound of the door shutting rather loudly, making him pause mid smoke. He didn’t turn, not really caring who had interrupted his little break, but he waited a moment’s pause to see if they’d interrupt him any further. Of course, just his luck, they did.
”Excuse me,” said the intruder. ”You know you can’t do that in here. Or anywhere, for that matter.” The voice was loud and bright, yet somehow gentle, and it was a voice that Caleb simply couldn’t take seriously. He smirked around his cigarette, ignoring the boy who’d barged in so annoyingly, and continued to stare pointedly out the window, sucking in one more good pull. He blew the smoke out slowly, savoring the feel and being a little extra showy with it. He kept the stub between his fingers and then turned his head, finally looking at the boy that had ruined his little moment of relaxation.
The boy was much smaller than him, thin and compact, but he looked wound tight with energy. He had a clear happiness about him, a general air of goodness, and the Hufflepuff tie around his neck only confirmed these things in Caleb’s mind. He was cute, his face open and sweet, his hair wearing long, his eyes bright. Caleb could feel the slight catch in his breath despite the fact that that was exactly what he didn’t want to do, his eyes widened and it just wasn’t good. This kid was simply beautiful, there was nothing else to it, and Caleb couldn’t deny himself that, even if he wanted to. The sudden rush of attraction took him so off guard, he felt a blush rising. Caleb didn’t blush. He coughed, though it had absolutely nothing to do with the smoke, and he tried to cover up any sort of sign he might have given away. This wasn’t him, he didn’t like it, not one bit. In that instant he brought the cigarette to his lips again for a quick bit of relief, holding it longer than he normally would, and then he sent it barreling out the window.
“Are you planning on stopping me?” It seemed that Caleb suddenly had found his words, the smoke lulling him back into his carefully maintained hard shell. He considered rubbing the butt of the cigarette into the counter and pinching it out the window, but then he knew that that would be too easy. He wasn’t just going to give up his smoke, no matter if this kid wanted him to…this kid that was undeniably cute, but also easily very irritating. “I’m pretty content here, if you don’t mind.” He stared across the bathroom at the Hufflepuff challengingly, bringing the cigarette back up to his lips and letting it just rest there, staying exactly there against the wall. He ignored the butterflies that tried to fly in his stomach, hardening his stare instead.

Just the air this kid was giving off was putting a bad taste in his mouth, and he wasn’t even talking about the smoke, although that was doing similar things as well. Kalin couldn’t even properly see the boy yet thanks to the clouds of smoke that still lingered between them, hanging in the air and giving off their unpleasant stench. But just from the way that he had barely moved, hardly disturbed by Kalin’s intrusion, hanging back as if he hadn’t a care in the world – that was already getting to him. Didn’t he realize he could get in trouble? Didn’t he care at all? Obviously there was some sort of blatant disregard for authority going on, and that was something that just bothered Kalin right down to his very core.
“Are you planning on stopping me?” came a sarcastic drawl from amidst the curls of grey smoke, and Kalin’s face crumpled to a confused, stubborn expression that could only be described as incredulity. Of course Kalin planned on stopping him – why else would he have confronted him in the first place? And even though this boy had asked the question, it didn’t appear as though he really cared much about the answer, or the consequence if it turned out that punishing him was exactly Kalin’s intention.
Incredibly stubborn and a bit riled up, Kalin’s small hands turned into tense, balled up fists. Not that he would ever use them of course; it was just a bit of a reflex. “Actually, I—“ he started to stammer adamantly, stepping further forward into the billows of smoke surrounding the boy, though it certainly wasn’t pleasant in the least. However, he cut himself off as he got closer, his eyes finally catching a glance of the boy’s figure, his face. From the roughness of the boy’s voice, one would expect his silhouette to be equally harsh, but this certainly was not the case. The look in Kalin’s eyes changed from stubborn anger to a sort of confused wonder as he looked at the boy, taking in all the features of his face. He looked almost delicate, his face structured so perfectly they might have been carved out of porcelain. His skin looked as equally light and smooth, though it was hard to tell through the cigarette smoke. His lips were full and lush, and though they were pressed in a hard, frowning line, they still looked beautiful. Dark brown hair topped off his beautiful face, plastered perfectly to his head, not a strand out of place. The sheer beauty of it all, especially in contrast to what had been expected simply overwhelmed Kalin, and he was taken aback as he stammered for words to say next.
However, it appeared as though it still was not his turn for speaking. “I’m pretty content here, if you don’t mind,” he said quite arrogantly as he turned to stare straight at Kalin, again putting him a bit off guard. The look in the boy’s eyes was almost challenging, as though he dared Kalin to do anything about it. It frustrated Kalin to see such an ugly look on such a perfect face, and it was this, combined with the outraging emotion emitting from the boy’s features that finally brought Kalin out of his semi-trance, angering him enough to get his job done.
“Actually I do mind!” Kalin said stubbornly, planting his feet firmly on the floor, hands straight and tense at his sides, staring at the other boy with a glare that might have rivaled his. “Smoking is a fire hazard!” he declared matter-of-factly. “And also it’s bad for you! And for everyone else.” Sadly, this just didn’t seem to be the type of boy that would care about the health of others, or maybe even of himself, but Kalin couldn’t think of anything else to say. All he knew was that if this adorable boy gave him any more trouble, he may have to resort to things he just didn’t like to do. He wouldn’t like putting such a cute face in detention, but if it came down to that, he would certainly have no regrets. After all, that cute face was being a bit of a twat right now, and that just wasn’t okay, cute face or not.

REPORTS OF LOVERS' TRYST W E R E N E I T H E R C L E A R N O R D E S C R I P T- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -[/sup] Caleb sucked on his cigarette thoughtfully as he watched the boy stare through the smoke at him. His fists were balled tightly, but the look on his face didn't match his stance. He looked confused, and with the way his eyes were roving over Caleb's face, he couldn't help but feel slightly unsettled, uncomfortable. Normally he didn't care about another's eyes, another's judgement. Their thoughts weren't his problem, he couldn't care less. But now, as he stood there, smoking despite the boy's clear distaste, he couldn't help but feel off centered. His stare unnerved him, he didn't like it. However, underneath it all, hiding away in the back of his mind, there was an intrigue, a thrill from feeling his eyes on him. But Caleb didn't like to pay any attention to that.
"Actually I do mind!" He was speaking now, his voice a loud, piercing trill that instantly was aggravating. "Smoking is a fire hazard!" Caleb raised his eyebrows at that, feeling tempted to laugh it off. A fire hazard? When they all had wands that could quite easily extinguish any common place fire that a wayward cigarette could cause? They weren't muggles, they didn't need to depend on a fire hose or a whatever it was muggles depended on in the case of a sudden fire. It was just a ridiculous thing to worry about in Caleb's opinion. "And also it's bad for you! And for everyone else." Caleb chose to roll his eyes at this point, pointedly bringing his cigarette up for another smoke, his eyes taking in the stubborn look on the Hufflepuff's face, the tensenesss in his shoulders and arms. Really, he looked like he could use a smoke, and that thought greatly entertained Caleb, making his smirk around his joint of tabacco. He pulled it back from his lips and blew out easily from the side of his mouth, letting his arm rest against the small window sill.
"Bad for me, huh?" Caleb questioned, bringing his gaze to stare daringly into the other boy's eyes. "And why would you care about that?" He waited a beat and then brought the cigarette to his lips again. He took a pull and then brought it down, pushing the butt into the window sill as if it were an ash tray. He didn't frankly care if it left a mark, and sure, he might have been being a little bit more obnxious on purpose. This kid made it easy, he just cared too much.
Normally Caleb would have been fine with the one smoke, but right about now he knew he wouldn't be. He was feeling difficult, and he was amused, so walling away right now just made no sense to him. Instead he pushed his hand into his pocket to retrieve his pack of cigarettes. He flicked it open and pulled one out. Unconsiously he looked up from under his lashes, and he made eye contact with the unwanted guest. He bent the pack towards him, the corners of his mouth pulling up, amused, his eyes flashing.
"Honestly, you look like you could use one." It was only polite to offer if he was having another go, wasn't it? "One good smoke might just loosen that stick up your arse." He jiggled the pack of cigarettes in his general direction and stuck his second to rest between his lips. Caleb pushed off the wall and advanced slowly on the boy, the height difference immeadiately extremely obvious. "Really, you're lucky I'm kind enough to share." He finished, his words coming out slightly mumbled because of the cigarette in his mouth. He didn't actually expect the guy to take the bait, but it was entertaining to watch him squirm, non-the-less.
