A Very Potter Party! {Open/Garden Party}

It was lucky, Lily thought as she flicked her wand, a large punch bowl flying out of the busy kitchen and on to a table set up in the back garden, that the weather was nice. Of course it wouldn’t have stopped the party, a few handy charms here and there would have been enough to ensure that the guests didn’t get wet, but a bit of sunshine certainly added to the good humour of the day. Lily always looked forward to these events; it was a fantastic way to spend time with family and friends without the worry of work. It seemed so often recently that the only time Lily ever really saw her friends was during Order meetings..........

[HARRY JAMES POTTER]

It was nice to be in the safety of his own home, in the comfort of his own bed. After the initial scare with the attacks on the students, it was slightly stressful to get sleep of any type. And then the Dueling Club Fiasco happened. He wasn't sure he had ever seen his parents so worried or angry before in his life. Harry was still a bit sore, even though the school nurse had been able to heal him. Of course, it had taken a while, she had to first figure out what spells and curses had been used on him first. Of course, he really hadn't been able to tell her; having been unconscious for the most part. He barely was able to remember his Father and Snape over him in the hallway; his only real clear memory (besides the fight) was waking up in the hospital wing.

He shifted slightly on his bed, freezing his movement when his muscles protested slightly with the moving. A small sigh escaped him as he buried his face into the pillow, the familiar smell of home seeping into him, comforting him. He was in a lot of trouble and he knew it. On top of having left the club without supervision, he had proceeded to have a major duel in the corridor, and to top it all off he was accusing Fabien Lestrange of being a Death Eater. Of course, he really didn't have any proof. And as no one had seen who he had been fighting with, his argument had fallen on deaf ears.

Picking up his head slightly, he squinted at his bedside table, trying to make out the red numbers that were on the clock. It was nearly noon... His mum had that party to do today. It had been the reason for him and his sister to come home (that and he secretly thought his parents just wanted to keep a closer eye on him). Heaving a bigger sigh, he got up out of bed, his hand shifting under his shirt to scratch at his stomach. Throwing his legs over the edge of his bed, he stood up, stretching slightly and making his way to his closet. He stared at his clothing. He had no desire to get all dress fancy, and he was sure his mum wouldn't be happy with him for wearing his worn muggle clothing. But he saw no reason to get dressed up. It was only a bunch of family friends and their family coming over.

Well, he already had invoked the wrath of his parents... what would be a bit more? He grabbed the nicest set of muggle clothing he owned, a pair of faded blue jeans, with a gray plaid collared shirt. And to top it off a gray hoodie with the zipper open. Putting on his regular sneakers, he opened his door and started to head for the stairs. He came to a slow stop, seeing his Mum on the steps; looking at pictures of the family. “Mum?” his voice slightly questioning as came to a stop a few steps above her.

"Are you guys ready yet?" Kadey's voice echoed up the stairs as she stood in the hall facing the mirror as she ran a brush through her wild hair in an attempt to tame it and put her hair up into a more sophisticated look. Usually her hair was left just as it was unless of course she was working then she made sure her hair looked somewhat professional; this was usually achieved by tying her hair back. Some of her colleges didn't bother with such formalities but for Kadey how you presented yourself was important; if you went out to protect people looking like you had been dragged through a hedge then it wouldn't exactly give off a positive image of the aurors or the ministry. Finally managing to tame her hair she pulled it back into a bun completing her look for the garden party she and her family had been invited to and began to apply the finishing touches to her make-up. Her mother had taught her from a young age that events like this required you to dress up, as a child Kadey had thought it silly to doll yourself up even when you were seeing friends as they saw you normally anyway. But her mother had taught her that it was important to look nice for people and Kadey had now embraced this ideology and was beginning to pass it on to her children. It wasn't often she got to dress up like this; work consumed her life so it was a breath of fresh air to be able to have some down time and she was looking forward to seeing her friends and having time away from dark wizards and Voldemort.

"Guys hurry up!" She called again as her patience began to wear thin; she knew they still had time to get there but she wanted to make sure they were all ready. The last thing she wanted to happen was for them to leave at the last minute and find they had forgotten something and thus resulting in them being late. She knew it was silly to fret over such things but her work had caused her to be quite a punctual person and she didn't like being late for anything; Straloch often teased her about it and usually she was quite relaxed about it when she was at home with her family; but now she found herself all wound up. She wanted to make a good impression today and she wanted things to go well, it had been so long since she had been able to do something like this and she felt a bit socially cut off, any news she got about her fellow order members and friends came either from her husband or her children, and that wasn't the best way to hear things. She was worried that she would struggle to interact with her friends and this worry was making her fret over everything. Hearing a creak on the stairs she turned her head to see her husband in a smart shirt and jeans; smiling she walked over to him and planted a tender kiss on his lips. "You look stunning my dear, even if the jeans are a little out of place."

"You look beautiful too my dear," Straloch replied ignoring her little comment about his jeans; that was what she loved so much about him, he just got her. He knew that she was worrying and rather then arguing about it he was just letting it slide. She was so happy to be married to such a wonderful and outstanding man and she wouldn't want to change him for anyone. Not even the man who she had lusted after for many years Mr Sirius Black. During her years at Hogwarts she had been infatuated with him but had never said or done anything about it. Although a part of her still loved Sirius she would never do anything to wreck his marriage or her own. She had found everything she had ever dreamed of and more in her husband and she didn't know what she would do without him. She wasn't a big believer in soul mates; not at the level that her husband was but she would say if asked that she did think that she and Straloch were meant to be; and to see herself with anyone else was something she couldn't comprehend.

Finally her children descended the stairs one by one all dressed to perfection, her youngest daughter Lucinda was wearing a beautiful white victorian styled dress and her eldest daughter Lola was wearing a red dress, it was a little short for Kadey's taste but she wasn't going to berate her daughter about her fashion choices like her mother had often done. Although she had embraced her mother's 'dress to impress' ideology she wasn't going to be over the top and dictate what her children could and couldn't wear; she had hated it when her mother had done that and despite how protective she often was over her children she didn't want to turn them into robots who did whatever she said. And even if she tried to she wouldn't get very far not with the genes she and Straloch had passed on. Her children liked to push the boundaries and cause trouble just like they had done and she knew that if she tried to tell her children how to dress, act and behave that it would fall on deaf ears and they would rebel much like she had done.

"Come along then, Straloch you take Lucina with you, Natal and Brintal can go together and Lola you can come with me." Side along apparation wasn't the easiest thing in the world but lucky for her she had the perfect amount of qualified apparaters in order for this to work. Grabbing the bottle of wine she had bought for the occasion she took Lola's hand and turned on the spot; leaving her home behind and appearing at the Potter's establishment in a matter of seconds. Running a hand down her dress to neaten it out she watched as each of her family arrived one by one. It was slightly amusing to see the younger of her children react to the sensation of apparating; she herself had found it difficult the first few times but now found it didn't affect her. Walking up to Straloch she interlocked her arm with his and the family walked down the pathway and up to the front door and gave a loud knock. "Please behave yourselves. Especially you two." She looked at the twins who gave her an innocent smile back; they were often causing trouble at Hogwarts and she didn't put it past them to try something here, she was often impressed by their creativity but the last thing she wanted was to be chasing after her children trying to stop them from setting off a fire or something else outrageous.

Luke wasn't sure what to make of the Potter party. He would go, certainly, but being as shy as he was - he wasn't certain how much fun he would have or would be. The wounds that Brianna had ripped into his heart were still quite delicate and stung from time to time. She, however, seemed to be coping well. He saw her with almost every boy seemingly that the school seemed to contain. He would like to think he had changed her for the better, but he didn't know if that were the truth. She still seemed a bit too self-centered for his tastes, not that it mattered. He knew that there was no chance of them ever getting back together no matter how much he may have wished it. They were through and nothing he could do would change that - and part of him didn't want to. Clearly, she wasn't the right girl for him.

So why did he have to pine away from her like some pathetic lovesick puppy? He had to find someone or something to distract him from this, and thus he thought the party would be a perfect place to go.

Perhaps, he could meet a girl that would keep his mind from wandering and drifting back to Brianna. He knew that, perhaps, he shouldn't, but that wasn't going to stop him. After all, Brianna had all the tact and sensitivity of an emotionless teaspoon, and he wasn't about to be alone for the rest of his life simply because of unrequited love. A part of him would always love her, the way she had never loved him, but that was ancient history like Rome or Greece. He could and he would (he told himself firmly) move on. Other people did it all the time. He wouldn't be stuck in perpetual misery for the rest of his life.

He just wished he had known what had gone wrong. As it stood, he really didn't. Of course, proposing was the wrong choice, but he hadn't known why. He had thought it through, much to Brianna's conjecture of the contrary. It infuriated him that she thought he would just randomly throw out the question without any thought. It wasn't a very intelligent thought for a Ravenclaw, after all. Rolling his blue eyes, he sighed, running a hand through his dark brown locks. Sometimes, he wished that he could be anyone but him. It was then that he got the idea to actually use his metamorphagus abilities for once.

He kept his usual features in tact like his height and his facial expressions, but he changed his hair color to bright red (so bright he might get mistaken for a Weasley), and his eyes were a chocolate brown. No one needed to know how depressed he was, he wasn't going to let on that he was still despondent over the break up. After all, it was time to move on or so people had told him. He was young, he was resilient, he was supposed to bounce back. Forgive him for taking some time to go on with his life. He sighed, rolling his eyes once more. People were unbelievable, and he didn't just mean Brianna.

What vexed him the most was her statement that she loved him, but he didn't want to marry her. It annoyed him. What could she possibly have done that he wouldn't have forgiven her for? Maybe that was part of the problem. Maybe he had been too forgiving, but that was something in his nature that he never hoped to change. He didn't want to be unforgiving or callous like some men were, and he didn't want to see women as nothing more than sexual beings, either. They had minds of their own and they deserved to be treated and respected like the goddesses, they were.

However, he also deserved respect. He didn't deserve everyone walking all over him, like they tended to do. It was maddening.

He knew that part of the problem was that he was too nice, but he couldn't help that. He wasn't going to mean simply to help his self image. Maybe he would say 'no' more often or work hard to do something impressive so people would get off his back for once. He was so sick of people telling him to grow a backbone. Simply because he was sensitive and kind, it didn't make him weak. Simply because he could show his emotions freely, it didn't mean that he lacked strength. In fact, he thought it took more balls to actually admit something was wrong than going around acting like everything was okay when it so clearly wasn't. Sighing, he ran a hand through his now scarlet hair.

Shrugging to himself, he finally reached the Potter house, finding that there weren't too many people there yet. Maybe he had been early or just on time. Either way, he was embarrassed. His cheeks flushed tomato red like every time they did when he was ashamed of something he had said or done. Sighing, he went off in pursuit of something that would make him look less like a fixture and more like a party guest. He wasn't sure what to do, but he knew just standing there like a moron wasn't going to do the trick.

There were many things that George loved about turning seventeen this past April. The first thing he loved about it was it meant that this was his final year at Hogwarts. Now don’t get him wrong he loved the school. But this year he didn’t feel as excited to be returning to the large castle. Sure it got him away from the over protectiveness that was his mother. Now don’t get him wrong George loved his mother. One couldn’t find the best home cooked meal anywhere unless they came to Molly Weasley’s kitchen. But there were times were he would wish she would treat him like the adult that he now was. They didn’t have any problems treating Bill, Charlie, or Percy as adults. So why was there such a problem with Fred and himself? They were angels.

Of course the second thing George loved about turning seventeen last April was the most important rule of them all. He was an Adult! No longer would he be considered as an under aged wizard. Yes ladies and gentlemen George Fabian Weasley lived to see his seventeenth birthday. Miracles did happen every day. Laying on his back George stared up at the ceiling from his four poster bed. He gave a long and drawn out sigh as he thought about the latest happenings at the school. Thankfully he himself wouldn’t be in any jeopardy. It seemed that whoever was doing these attacks were only going after the muggle-borns of the school. But it still left a sour taste in his mouth. George had several friends that were Muggle born. With one last sigh he pulled himself up using upper body strength and went about his daily ritual for the morning.

Making his way down to the common room he glanced about the room. He could remember a few nights ago when Harry mentioned that his mother was planning on throwing a party for the Order Members and their families. Well Molly and Arthur were both members of the Order. So then that meant he would be able to go to the party. Grinning he quickly gathered a small bag of his belongings and ran out of the Common room. He quickly made his way down the changing staircase and out the front doors. It took him a few minutes to reach the gates, and of course once he was a safe distance from the school he glanced around him before concentrating on a nearby location. With a clear image of the Potters cottage he felt the world around him beginning to spin rapidly before it felt like being squeezed through a small straw.

With a loud bang he apparated in the back yard of the Potter home. Waiting a few seconds to get his bearings he glanced around the backyard a small smile on his features. Not seeing any of the Potter’s outside he deposited his bag into an empty chair before making his way up to the back door of the cottage. Knocking loudly on the door he slowly let himself into the kitchen. “’llo…” he called out loudly as he glanced about the kitchen. Right away he could tell that there were large differences to the Potter’s kitchen compared to the Weasley’s. First of all there was more room and everything seemed cleaner and newer than what George was use to seeing. But then again the Potter’s did have a bit more money than his own family. But that didn’t stop the Weasley’s from enjoying the life they led.

Not seeing anyone inside the kitchen he stole a sandwich before making his way back outside into the backyard. Making his way over to where he had previously dumped his bag he took a seat in an empty chair next to it as he took a large bite from his stolen sandwich. If there was one thing about the Weasley boys…they had quite the appetite.

[APRIL LILY POTTER]

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING
WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE
( and it never seems out of place )

A wisp of dark red hair touched one of the many mirrors that had been placed in a teenage bedroom. Emerald green eyes sparkled in the light as the reflection gave away all of its secrets. Dark red lips formed a smile, slightly crinkling at the sides, indicating true happiness. A light tone of blush crossed the young cheeks, preserving the last few years of clear skin. Long nails painted in a light blue that shimmered in the sunlight, giving off a subtle glittery feeling. Makeup which had spent hours to put on seemed like needless effort when it was only a garden party. But the moral of looking one’s best at all times stopped the teenager from going outside of her room wearing the yellow number she had picked out earlier that day. There was nothing wrong with the yellow dress, it was really one of her favourites, but today she felt like wearing something that symbolised confidence and intelligence.

April caught her reflection once again as she approached the living room, her head held high and a happy smile on her small face. Today’s theme was blue, from her make up to her nail polish. The halter neck dress with the ruffles which ended above her knees, moved with her body as she glided across the room. Her blue heels made soft footfalls every time she made a step, causing a slight mischievous giggle to escape her lips. A matching set of sapphire jewellery glimmered in the light, her earrings softly clanging against her ears. The ring on her fourth finger on her left hand fitted perfectly against her skin, a somewhat cool feeling pressed against her small hands. There had been a time where she had spent more than ten minutes trying to find the set, but she had put that behind her, remembering that her house was now open to guests, most of which she would have to interact with in the next few hours. A longing part of her wanted to sit down under her favourite tree, a book in one hand and a small plate of goodies beside her. It was a tempting resolution, but she found her parents wrath far more concerning than a few less hours of studying. Besides, she would just have to catch it up later on, maybe through dinner.

Among other things that had been pushed aside, was the incident at Hogwarts, which had caused a feeling of emptiness inside her soul. Too many students were getting hurt, now most were too scared to do anything that would leave them venerable. April was one of these kids, not that she would tell her parents or Harry; they had enough to worry about. Her smile slightly faded as she remembered what she had been told about the duelling club. Poor Harry, stupid, stupid boys. Why did bad things always happen to her brother, it was like he had been jinxed or something. April closed her eyes, leaning against the wall for a small moment. She had compressed all this information for a reason, to keep it away from her main concerns, while she worried about things that she did have control over. Today was supposed to be the day she could throw it all out the window and help her parents. But she couldn’t help feeling as if something was waiting for her to drop her guard.

Knocking interrupted her trail of thought, and she gently pushed herself off the wall. April passed through the living room, making sure she didn’t bump anything in the process, and approached the front door. She paused for a moment, brushing her hair to one side, and then pushing it back again. Taking a huge breath, she slowly opened the door, and smiled up at the family in front of her. “Good day Chahandra’s, welcome to the Garden Party. If you care to follow me, I shall lead you outside.” she spoke gently, a slightly nervous smile on her face. April bowed her head slightly, and swept through the two rooms that led to the garden, trying to keep an even pace in the process. When she was nervous, April tended to do things alot faster than she would at any other time, which was just the way she did things.

Once she was outside, April couldn’t help smiling around at the small gathering of people, noticing a few people she would have a chat to. She knew this blue dress would make her stand out for sure, but today she really didn’t care. April gazed around the area for a brief moment, and realised she hadn’t done her job yet. Kicking herself, April rushed back into the kitchen a few moments after a flash of red hair past her by. Approaching the kitchen bench, April glanced down at the pile of sandwiches, and noticed one missing. A small laugh escaped her lips, as she lifted the tray of sandwiches with one hand, and used her wand to lift up the pile of plates, which would follow her around until she requested them to stop. She didn’t know who had done it, but she knew it would be obvious the moment she entered the garden again. The only person with a sandwich.

Coming back outside again, her eyes searched while warm greetings fell from her lips as she passed familiar faces. April dropped her search when she saw a familiar boy, who was munching on the sandwich. She wasn’t entirely surprised to see it was George with the sandwich. Approaching the boy, April couldn’t help shaking her head, her free hand on her hip. But her voice couldn’t hide her amusement. “This one is the one you have to eat, try grabbing as much as you can before the adults come.” April passed a platted sandwich over to him, a teasing smile on her face. Of course, she was trying to get rid of the sandwiches before they did any damage to her arm, the last thing she needed was a bruise on her little arms. She bowed her head slightly, and walked off again, passing plates of food as she went.

Another familiar face crossed her line of vision, and she paused to watch the older boy, her head slightly tilted. He looked out of place among the others, and she smiled gently, knowing the feeling. “Hey Luke.” she called, just in case approaching without introductions would startle him. She glanced down at the pile of sandwiches, and sent one over to the plate gliding beside her hand, her favourite flavour. April walked over to the hufflepuff boy, her face breaking into a smile. “Glad you could make it. Harry’s still inside, probably helping mother with something. Why don’t you try one of mother’s classic sandwich while you wait?” she suggested, indicating the plate with her wand, which glided over to him.

Smiling came naturally to the red-head, it was just something she had grown up doing. If a friend was sad, what was better than to make them happy? Nothing. Happiness just came in all shapes and sizes. And as April stood there among the adults, teenagers and children, she knew that things just couldn’t be anymore peaceful than this.

[/color] he said, looking up and greeting the large family that had joined them for their party. “Welcome!” he said rather loudly, grinning at everyone. “Please do enjoy yourselves.” He ushered them further in, already making quite the gracious host. James caught the eye of Kadey, the mother of the family with whom he worked. They had a bit of a mischievous past, and James could never quite forget that when he was around her. He gave her a quick wink before turning towards the kitchen in the hopes of finding his wife around somewhere.

Thankfully he found her quickly, and it appeared as though she was still preparing food and appetizers for the guests. “Good morning, dear,” he greeted her with a grin. “Anything I can help with?” He didn’t want her to be doing all of the work – this was a day for fun and relaxation, and James definitely wanted his wife to have as much of that as possible. As her husband and co-host of this grand event, it was the least he could do for her, really.

It was times like this when Lily missed the early years of her marriage were she could push aside all her worries and simply enjoy watching her children grow up, she could have fun doing silly spontaneous things with James simply because they could. The pictures that filled the walls of their family home echoed how much her life seemed to have changed, she was working now, she hadn’t worked properly since before she and James were married and she worked with him in the ministry. After she was married it was easier for the family if she stayed home and looked after the children, although as they got older she had done a few different jobs here and there to preoccupy her time.

Lily glanced to Harry as he descended the stairs and addressed her, ‘Harry!’

[/b]Lily said brightly moving her attention from the photos on the wall to Harry rather questionable outfit. She rolled her eyes as she took in his rather scruffy attire. Sure it wasn’t a really formal affair but she did expect him to dress smart, she could cope with the faded jeans and collared shirt but the grey hoodie and trainers were just too much. ‘Harry dear’ she said in her, i’m telling you off but not wanting it to appear that way voice. ‘Couldn’t you at least have put you best shoes on? And is that hoodie really necessary?’ [/b]she asked with a sigh, the other families attending would think they were too stingy to buy Harry decent clothing, ‘Could you go back upstairs and at least change your trainers and hoodie Harry...’[/b] she said before adding ‘and while you’re up there you could put on that nice shirt I brought you last week’.

Lily gave Harry a sweet smile before leaving the hallway entering the kitchen suspiciously looking for anyone whom might have caused the disturbance she had heard earlier, but it seemed no one was there. Maybe she was paranoid. Lily gazed out to see James and April in the garden with various guests, she beamed excited about what the day would bring. At least James had managed to drag himself from between the warm sheets of their bed. She’d been up a few times to find him still dozing that morning, but for some reason she hadn’t the heart to wake him. She was sure she was coming down with something, usually she would quite happily drag the covers off him, leaving him lying their shivering as she laughed wickedly at her actions.

She turned her attention of the fridge opening the door she took out some bottles of wizarding elder flower wine for the ladies and some beers along with butterbeers for the younger members of the party. She opened the bottle as James strolled into the kitchen, she gave him a bright smile as she pulled the cork from one of the bottles with a loud pop. ‘Nope i’m all done here’ she said in regards to the offer of him helping. The thought of James helping did slightly alarm Lily who had visions of him trying to be helpful but causing disaster after disaster resulting in the complete ruin of all her homemade cooking.

‘I must say’[/b] Lily said with a smile ‘You look awfully dashing in that suit, perhaps you should give your son some tips’ [/b]she said referring to Harry, as she often did when he behaved in a rebellious manner as James child. Lily waved her wand, a tray of glasses moved from the kitchen counter to the counter in front of her as she placed the open bottle on the tray. Lily had refrained from drinking since her post natal depression; now and again she would have a glass but only on special occasions. She hated to be reminded of the time when she had been at her lowest.

Harry blinked, looking at the pictures that lined the stairs. His entire life story so far was presented in them. There were even pictures of James and Lily before they had children, spinning around in front of a fountain with autumn leaves falling all around them; the looks on their face the happiest of two lovers content with just each other. Perhaps they thought that there was no way their marriage could possibly be any better. It was the height of the war, and Harry doubted very much if they had even thought about having children in those dark times. Even though he couldn't remember it, he knew that he spent the first year of his life in hiding with his parents; his mother and father fearing that the Dark Lord would show up at any second to murder their tiny little family. His emerald eyes moved to the next picture, a pregnant Lily, due any day in the sweltering summer heat. His father wasn't in that picture, and he could only assume that James had been the one to take it.

Harry's eyes traveled to a large frame; one of those 'My First Year' ones where pictures of babies first twelve months were to be posted. The one labeled month one contained a picture with a baby Harry, nothing but a few days old and sleeping in the arms of his father, who had the biggest, cheesiest smile on his face Harry had ever seen. And it continued in this manner, all the way up until his first birthday; a picture of an infant him waving his arms about happily as he slammed his hand into the small cake for him. He then searched the pictures around it, finding once more a picture with a pregnant Lily... only this time Harry saw himself as little over a year with his hands pressed against her bulging stomach; in the hopes of feeling his baby sister moving around inside. Pictures of a baby April, being supported by her older brother (who was supported by a larger set of hands), or playing with an April just learning to walk. All the way up until the only images left were the most recent ones... the ones where the children had been sent off to Hogwarts.

With these pictures, they were few and far in between. One could tell that the pictures were months apart. The summer times, Christmas Holidays... Easter Holidays. Birthdays. All depicting the life of the Potter family. There were even a few photos that were completely motionless, taken from a Muggle camera.

His attention was brought back to his Mother as she noticed him. He turned his head slightly, his eyes still locked on the picture he had first noticed (the one of James and Lily twirling happily in front of the fountain) before he reluctantly tore his gaze to look at his mother. He was quick enough to catch her eye roll and mimicked her, knowing exactly what she was about to say. “I could have... But then you would yell at me about wearing my 'good shoes' and ruining them.” he said to her. Classic rebel teenager. Last year, Harry wouldn't have dared try to talk back to his parents. But the older he got, the more he wanted to just be his own person. He would be seventeen in two years... an adult in the wizarding world. An aggravated sigh escaped him as she suggested he at least change his trainers and put the hoodie away. A stab of irritation hit him a second later as she then suggested he change his shirt. “You just said the shirt was fine!” he said to her, pointing to his own shirt. He thought he had been very good at dressing himself. At least he wasn't wearing something stained.

Harry watched his mother leave to only Merlin knew where as he stood rooted on the spot. Why should he have to change? The only thing his mum had told him the previous night was to dress in appropriate clothing. She said nothing about dressing fancy. Sure, Harry knew that that had been exactly what she had wanted... but again, it all boiled down to his rebellious teenaged attitude. After a few minutes, Harry deemed that enough time had gone by and continued on his way down the stairs. He didn't really care much about what he looked like or how he dressed.

Walking outside, he looked around at the various people that had so far showed up. All of them he recognized from the Order of the Phoenix... and some from the Auror department. Seeing Luke, he quickly made his way over to his childhood best friend. However he stopped, seeing George Weasley (or was it Fred?) as well. Hmm, now may be an excellent time to discuss some pranks that needed to be pulled at Hogwarts. And whenever Isaac showed up, they could finalize those plans. With his new destination in mind, Harry made his way over to the unmistakeable Weasley child. “Where's the other one? I'm not used to seeing one without the other,” he said as a way of greeting. He figured it was the safest way to greet the twin, not knowing which one he was exactly.

Luke felt as if this were going to be yet another party where he'd fade into the background. His parents would fuss and coddle Marian, Piper would be withdrawn, and to get away from it all he might end up on the roof of the Potter's house. He had a tendency to climb up on rooftops or apparate up on them when he felt that he wasn't needed and yet didn't think he should leave. He had done it one Christmas when his parents and his sisters seemed to be bonding, and he felt as if he were intruding on a scene he didn't belong in. He had sat on the roof of his parents' house for a couple hours before his parents had noticed he was missing. His mum had rushed out of the house, looking alarmed, until she noticed her son on the roof. Then she seemed half-amused and half-exasperated. She had insisted that Luke get down. Luke had a tendency to be clumsy like his mother, but he could be quite the acrobat if he set his mind to it.

However, to appease his mother he had climbed down, landing firmly on his feet which he had kept bare. The snow tickled his toes and made him sneeze, something which seemed to amuse his mother. She had led him in by his shoulder, insisting that he was going to catch pnemonia if he stayed out in the snow without shoes and a decent coat. He just hadn't felt like wearing either of those things at the time. He didn't know if his father ever found out because if he had, his father hadn't said anything about his bizarre antics. Then again, Luke almost went out of his way to stay out of his parents way. He didn't want to be a burden to them - he already felt as if his sisters viewed him as a burden, and he didn't want to shame his entire family. Running a hand through his now red hair, he gave a sigh. Sometimes he wished he could have been born as someone else. It would have been quite nice.

He noticed one of the Weasley twins off eating by himself and the Chahandra's were there. Everyone looked nice. It made Luke wonder if he looked nice too. He hoped so, but he couldn't be certain. He hadn't really been paying attention to what he had grabbed. He had just thrown something on. He now regretted that decision. He just hoped that whatever garb he had decided to toss on his shoulders happened to match. He didn't exactly feel like being the laughing stock of the party. That would almost be worse than fading invisible into the background. Because, at least, if one could blend into their surroundings it meant that they could fit in somewhere.

He couldn't give this much more thought when the bright voice of April Potter cut through his rather pitiful thought process. He was glad. Because if his thoughts kept continuing on this line of thought, he was sure he would start thinking of Brianna again. Damn! There he was, thinking of that Ravenclaw girl again. He really should put her out of his mind. After all, it was clear she had moved on already. So should he. Yet he couldn't erase her from her mind seemingly as easily as she had forgotten all about him. He wished that he could. It would make things much easier, but alas, he couldn't. He knew that he was being more than a bit melodramatic, but he couldn't help himself. They had been together for so long, he thought it was a reasonable expectation to expect that she might want to spend the rest of her life with him. Silly Hufflepuff, clearly he had asked her too soon. It was insulting when she had asked him if he had even thought about it. Of course, he had!

Clearing his throat, and shaking the thoughts of the other young woman from his mind, he turned to April, instead. She looked pretty, he thought, and he couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. April was a sweet girl, sweet as sugar, and unlike with some girls - he knew that it wasn't an act. She was naturally kind and compassionate, and it was nice to see that not all girls were like his ex-girlfriend. "Hey, April," he responded. "You look nice," he added, in an attempt as an ease into conversation. It wasn't all too hard for him to talk to Harry's sister, though. While they may not have been the closest friends, they knew each other, and he was far more comfortable talking to her than he was with girls whom he didn't know. He didn't know what it was about girls, but they had the tendency to make him feel overwhelmed and awkward. At least, more awkward than he already was. Yet April was different, and he was greatful for that. He didn't know what he would have done if he would have started stammering in front of Harry's sister. That would have been quite embarrassing. Not to mention he would probably never be able to live it down. Harry would have teased him about it until he was ninety, if not longer. That wasn't something that he wanted to contend with. Plus Isaac would likely chime in (admittedly, though, Harry would have no room to talk seeing how inane he could be around girls).

Luke smiled at April. She was a genuinely nice person, which was nice for a change. He was so sick of people trying to use him or trying to see how naïve he was. Yes, he was human and yes he made mistakes. He didn't need their help in proving that fact. "I'm not really hungry at the moment, but thanks for the offer, April," Luke said gently, brushing off the Potter girl lightly. The Hufflepuff knew that she'd probably be surprised - most women seemed to think of men as bottomless pits, but he wasn't in the least craving any sort of food. He would probably be starving later due to his roller coaster or merry-go-round of emotions, but for now, he was fine. He ran a hand through his red hair, glad that no one chose to comment on his change of hair color. He had no idea if it suited him, at all. His chocolate eyes were usually their natural piercing blue, but together he thought they probably looked fine. Even if they made him look similar to a Weasley. All he needed now was to conjur up some freckles.
