Term had started well over a month ago and despite his initial worries and concerns life at Hogwarts was going better then expected and as each day passed he was feeling more and more confident within his role and was finding himself more relaxed with his surroundings. He had gained a lot of confidence in his lessons, and although he was still unsure what the best teaching method was and still felt the need to get advice from Lily, he felt confident that what he was doing was working. He had come to Hogwarts in the hope of changing the student's views on the power and lure of the Dark Lord and hoped to truly prepare them for what was outside of the safe walls that they called home, and so far it seemed to be working.
Of course to say everything was perfect would be a lie and Jonathan wasn't the sort to lie; he hated liars and had spent a lot of time trying to seek the truth from a lie and as a result he had ended up despising those who lied; it was one of his pet peeves and something he often struggled with as a teacher. He could tell when people lied to him; it was all about picking up on certain signals and although his sight often betrayed him he was still able to pick up on certain natural behaviours that occurred during a lie. Mainly he found that his students tended to lie when they were late for his lessons; breaking a rule of his that he was very strict on or when trying to come up with a solid excuse for not completing their homework. It wound him up more then he would ever care to admit and it was often hard not to show his anger and annoyance in front of the students; of course one could argue that homework wasn't vitally important as defending yourself came down to a practical element; but he set homework for a reason and the examining board required it. Magic wasn't just practical; there was theory behind it and the way to truly master a spell was to know it inside and out, so whatever the argument Jonathan was still adamant that homework was important and he was getting a little tired of the few students who thought they could get away with not doing it.
In addition to those students who thought it amusing to try and test his patience with their continuous lies there were also the few students who had taken it upon themselves to outwardly insult him and his appearance; he had of course expected this to happen but it was still not a pleasant experience for him; especially when some of those students thought it funny to enchant objects into his path. Unfortunately detention didn't seem to bother those said students and Jonathan was finding himself at a loss as to how to punish certain students, it wasn't as if he could send a little hex their way or resort to old fashioned methods. He would have to arrange a chat with the headmaster at some point to come to some agreement for what he was able to do; until then he would just have to make do. He did worry about the aftermath of what these students were doing; admittedly it was mainly Slytherins and a few Gryffindors but he wasn't ruling out the other students but cruelty like this was a mere stone's throw away from indulging in dark magic; and Jonathan was worried.... no....afraid that some of his students may have already taken that path.
As he walked the corridors looking out at the night sky he found himself in a sense of regret over staying in the office to mark papers rather then fetching himself a proper meal and getting an early night's sleep. The house elves had been kind enough to bring him something; almost as if they had known he wouldn't eat otherwise and although he wasn't exactly hungry he did wish he had been more sensible. But despite what he had lost as a result of his dedication to the job he had been able to get through the massive pile of papers that he'd received from the various years and had even taken it upon himself to help mark some of Lily's papers. He would of course keep this to himself; he and Lily didn't exactly see eye to eye and he wouldn't want her to get the wrong end of the stick and think that he thought her incapable of marking her papers. Then again he didn't exactly want her to be overwhelmed by such a 'kind gesture'; that just wasn't him, he had done it to be helpful and nothing more and Lily would probably read more into it then he wanted.
Turning around a corner and heading into the fifth corridor he felt something wet under his feet. Confused and surprised at being met by a wet floor he took his wand out. "Lumos" Pointing his wand at the ground he noticed there was a bit of water on the ground; this was enough to cause Jonathan's mind to start working like a clock as he began to try and solve this little mystery like being faced with a puzzle. Filch the resident caretaker would have never stood for this; nor would any of the house elves and various cleaners. They always ensured to keep the school clean and he doubted that they would have left a floor like this, not when there could be a risk of injury. Kneeling down he placed his hand into the water and he felt a chill down his spine at the familiar feel of what he had thought was water. A rush of panic came over him like water and he raised his wand to look further on. There was only one thing in the world that had that texture...blood, and he had come across it enough times to know what it was. Following the trail his eyes rested upon a student lying on the ground; she was a second year student and quite bright. The look on her face was haunting and Jonathan felt a burning anger within him as he looked upon her frozen face. Who on earth could have done this to such a wonderful person? He hand tightened around his wand and he turned his head to the side as he followed the dripping blood where upon the wall held a message that shook Jonathan to his very core. 'The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the heir, beware'.

Lily jumped up from her desk glancing around her office with wide eyes, she was sure she had heard a noise, something had awoken her and she wasn’t entirely sure what it was. As her heart slowed back to its normal pace Lily sighed, she had fallen asleep marking papers. It was hard work marking essay upon essay, many of which were completely awful and Lily had run out of ways to be encouraging, but reprimanding at the same time. She felt the side of her robes and was comforted to know her wand was still safe in its spot. Lily was rarely spooked, but for some reason she had an awful feeling she hadn’t been alone in the room while she slept.
She rubbed her eyes deciding perhaps it was time to call it a night and retire to her room, a good night’s sleep would calm her nerves. Lily grabbed her cloak threw it around herself, it was very chilly in her office she noted, the fire that had been crackling when she started marking had gone out. She thought it strange that the house elves hadn’t been up to fix it, they were usually so good. Lily packed away the essays placing them in the top of her desk drawer; she would get around to finishing them tomorrow.
She exited her office, and paused for a moment as she realized the strange sensation she was feeling on her foot was due to the fact she’d stood in a large pool of water. ‘Damn’
[/b] Lily said loudly, shaking her foot, ‘what on earth...’ she added as her green eyes followed the pool of water down the corridor. Perhaps it was a practical joke, she thought with a grimace, whoever was responsible for it certainly had an odd sense of humour. Perhaps it was Peeves, that ghost certainly got up to all sorts of strange antics. Lily followed the trail of water, reaching for her wand she drew it as she walked, whoever was responsible for this mess was certainly going to get a detention, the house elves had enough to do without having to clean up all of this. As Lily followed the water up another floor the corridors darkened, ‘Lumos’ Lily whispered, her wand lit up and she followed the trail of water closer. A chill swept over Lily as she walked, after being woken up so suddenly and the quietness of the corridor she couldn’t help but put her guard up. Lily peered into the darkness, her eyes rested on a figure on the floor; she gripped her wand tighter as she ventured forward trying to work out who it was. As her eyes adjusted to the dark she recognised the figure to be Professor Quinn, relaxing slightly she followed his gaze to the pool of blood on the floor, following the trail she took in the body of a young ravenclaw frozen rigidly. What on earth had happened here? Lily thought, the shock of the situation causing her to shake slightly before she pulled herself together. Lily wasn’t used to things like this occurring but she wasn’t a stranger to the dark arts, hell she wouldn’t have got the job here if she didn’t know how to handle herself in a situation like this. ‘Jonathan?’ Lily said quietly, her tone was serious as she read the writing painted in blood across the wall ‘what on earth has happened?’ she asked approaching the body of the girl and inspecting her, it was like she had been stunned but the effects where much worse. The girl looked like she had been petrified but Lily didn’t know of anything that could do this. Her green eyes scanned the corridor looking for any other clues that might help her make sense of what had happened but there was nothing there. So much for an early night’s sleep. Lily gazed at the poor girl, this child would have parents somewhere who would be incredibly anxious for their daughter once the news reached them, moreover any other parents were bound to be concerned once they heard of the attack. She only hoped that whoever had inflicted such a horrible act upon the girl would be caught quickly. TAG. Jonathan and other staff members, WORDS. 706 MUSIC. N/A NOTES. He didn't know what to do he was so overcome by shock that he just stood there over the body. Who on earth could have done such a thing to someone so innocent... so precious? And to use the myth of the Chamber of Secrets to fuel the attack? This was certainly a sick and very disturbed individual and it chilled Jonathan down to his very core; and he found himself wondering what manner of power had done something like this, and how had they managed to do it right underneath his nose? He wasn't usually arrogant or big headed but he prided himself in his skills against the Dark Arts and to think that something as bad as this had happened whilst he was at Hogwarts was something that made his blood boil.
Deciding to take some action rather then standing around letting his head get flooded with the various images and thoughts he knelt down beside the girl and checked her pulse. He was fearful that the girl was possibly dead and he had to check to find out what state she was in. If he was lucky then she was just unconscious and the situation could be quickly put under control but if his fears were correct and this girl had been murdered then there would be a lot of investigations and he would be a failure; he had come here to protect the students and to stop things like this happening; to show them that they shouldn't follow down a path of using dark magic and still someone had managed to do something like this.
Thankfully she did have a pulse but it was rather weak; he wasn't entirely sure what may have happened to her but rumours of the Chamber of Secrets and the history behind it stated that Salazar Slytherin had planted a weapon; a Basalisk to use against those who were unworthy. If such a creature truly existed then the parents would have to be warned; he knew that causing a scene would not be good for the school but he would be damned if he didn't so something to keep the student's safe. If that meant arguing with Dumbledore as to how they went about treating this then that's what he would do; whether the legend of the chamber was real or not he would not allow another student to attack someone with this much force. Spells flying around was only natural and would be impossible to stop; but something on this scale should never have happened and it made Jonathan furious to think that someone had managed to do something like this.
As he stood up a light came round the corner and instinctively he raised his own wand up ready to attack; if it was the person responsible coming back to admire his handy work then he was ready for whatever they threw at him. He was relived to see Lily and could use her gentle spirit. The two didn't often get on but he did trust her and admired her qualities; right now he was broken and angry about what had happened and if anyone could understand and help him it was Lily. "I-it wasn't me." He replied out of instinct just in case Lily had thought he had done something, and he wouldn't blame her. It certainly looked suspicious seeing a teacher with an almost dead student at his feet with his wand drawn. As she inspected the girl Jonathan turned his head away in shame; this was his fault, if he had been a better teacher and had shown his students the true damage this magic brought; if he had taught them better then this would have never have happened. "Please forgive me Lily, it's all my fault."
